Many APS Members attain high levels of recognition within the APS, as a result of their significant contributions to the APS and the field of psychology. Their names are listed below:
The grade of Honorary Fellow is bestowed by the APS Board on existing Fellows who have made an extraordinary contribution to the advancement of the APS and a distinguished contribution to the advancement of psychological knowledge or practice. Honorary Fellows can display their membership status with the post-nominals Hon FAPS, for Honorary Fellow of the APS. Honorary Fellows do not pay a membership subscription.

The APS awards the status of Life Member to those members who have held at least 50 years membership with the APS. In 2005, the APS first awarded the status of Life Member to those members who had held at least 50 years membership with the APS, which incorporated at least 10 years as a member of the Australian Branch of the British Psychological Society.

The grade of Fellow recognises exemplary contributions to the APS and to the discipline and/or profession of psychology and a Fellow must be nominated by existing Fellows or Honorary Fellows. Fellows can display their membership status with the post-nominals FAPS, for Fellow of the APS.

30+ Year Members are current members who have held APS membership for a cumulative period of at least 30 years, as at 31 December 2012.
