In The Hundred-foot Journey, Hassan Kadam (Manish Dayal) is a culinary ingénue with the gastronomic equivalent of perfect pitch. Displaced from their native India, the Kadam family, led by Papa (Om Puri), settles in the quaint village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the south of France. Filled with charm, it is both picturesque and elegant – the ideal place to settle down and open an Indian restaurant, Maison Mumbai.

That is, until the chilly chef proprietress of Le Saule Pleureur, a Michelin-starred, classical French restaurant run by Madame Mallory (Academy Award-winner Helen Mirren) gets wind of it. Her icy protests against the new Indian restaurant a hundred feet from her own escalate into a heated battle between the two establishments until Hassan’s passion for French haute cuisine — and for Madame Mallory’s enchanting sous chef, Marguerite (Charlotte Le Bon), combine with his mysteriously delicious talent to weave magic between their two cultures »

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Midnights This Weekend at The Hi-Pointe – Take the Whole Family!

28 July 2014 8:01 PM, PDT

“You could have dinner with us… my brother makes good head cheese! You like head cheese?”

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre screens this Friday and Saturday nights (August 1st and 2nd) at midnight at the Hi-Pointe Theater (1005 McCausland Ave, St. Louis) as part of Destroy the Brain’s Late Night Grindhouse series.

Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre may or may not be the scariest horror movie ever made (I think it is) but it’s certainly one of the most referenced, imitated, ripped off, and influential. It opened in October of 1974 when I was 13 and I read about it in a few monster mags, but could not initially talk my dad into taking me to see it (hew was usually pretty cool about that kind of thing – he’d already taken me to French Connection and A Clockwork Orange). About 6 months later, in April of 1975, the Italian horror film »

George Clooney To Star In Jodie Foster’s Money Monster

28 July 2014 5:29 PM, PDT

Tom Rothman’s TriStar Productions has acquired the worldwide rights and given the go ahead to Money Monster, a fast-paced, character-driven thriller written by Jamie Linden. Daniel Dubiecki, who worked with George Clooney on Up In The Air, and Lara Alameddine developed the script along with Jodie Foster, who will direct the film. Dubiecki and Alameddine’s The Allegiance Theater will produce together with Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov. Alan Difore and Jim Kouf wrote the original draft of the script.

Principal photography is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015.

Clooney stars as Lee Gates, a bombastic television stock huckster, whose program (the titular “Money Monster”), and life, are taken hostage by an outraged gunman. As much of the world watches live, Gates must keep himself alive and, with help from the woman who produces the show, uncover the truth behind a tangle of big money lies. »

Blamed for the murder of his girlfriend and ostracized by everyone he knows, a small-town guy Ig Perrish (Radcliffe) awakens one morning to find he’s grown a pair of horns. Armed with the supernatural powers they possess, he sets out to find the true killer.

What does Aja say about the source material? “It was not just a parable about good vs. evil, but a supernatural thriller with a romantic quest at its heart. As Joe Hill’s novel garnered a cult following and became a phenomena around the world, I felt it was my duty to respect its most original elements and to stay true to the fanbase.”

Interview – Wamg Talks To Guardians Of The Galaxy Composer Tyler Bates

28 July 2014 12:30 PM, PDT

Hollywood Records and Marvel are releasing three albums from Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy on Tuesday, July 29.

The Guardians of the Galaxy Deluxe soundtrack features classic 1970s songs from the film, plus score by composer Tyler Bates (“Watchmen,” “Slither,” “Dawn of the Dead”). Music plays a major role in Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy as the great songs featured in the film are part of the storyline in a unique way.

Explaining how the songs come to play in the story, director James Gunn says, “One of the main story points in the movie is that Quill has this compilation tape [Awesome Mix #1] that he got from his mother before she died that she made for him. It was of songs that she loved, all songs from the 1970s, and that’s the only thing he has left of his mother and that’s the only thing he has left of his home on Earth. »

Smell the Glove Midnights This Weekend at the Tivoli – This Is Spinal Tap!

28 July 2014 8:56 AM, PDT

“Dozens of people spontaneously combust each year. It’s just not really widely reported.”

This Is Spinal Tap runs only 82 minutes, which is hard to believe, given how many jokes, both subtle and not so subtle, are thrown at us. One of my favorite moments of the film is when we see Nigel Tufnel’s shrieking guitar solo. He is aimlessly dragging a violin across his guitar, and then stops to tune the violin. Kills me every time I see – which is a lot of times and I always find something new to laugh at I hadn’t noticed before.

This Is Spinal Tap is such a perfect send up of the lost days of arena rock that you will often feel that you are watching a documentary. Every line is perfectly believable. This movie is commonly labelled a “cult classic”, which is a shame, because it is one of »
