Board of directors
The Kansas Historical Foundation is governed by a board of between 36 and 90 directors. Each member serves a three-year term. Three directors are appointed by the governor of Kansas and the remaining are elected from among the members of the Kansas Historical Foundation at an annual meeting held each November. The board is led by an 18 member executive committee. The honorary board includes individuals who have significantly contributed to Kansas history.
The Kansas Historical Foundation is separate from but legislatively affiliated with the Kansas Historical Society (KSHS), a state agency. The objective of the Kansas Historical Foundation is to support the Historical Society with its development and programs.
Members of the board provide financial, legal, and ethical oversight of the organization and enhance its public standing. Subject to the general direction of the board of directors, the executive committee is authorized to exercise the powers of the board, including appointment of the chairs and members of the various committees, and is consulted by the executive director in carrying out the policies of the Kansas Historical Foundation and managing its affairs.
