Peter MacNicol Joins ‘CSI: Cyber’ as Series Regular

7 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Peter MacNicol has joined “CSI: Cyber” as a series regular, CBS announced Friday.

MacNicol will play Assistant Director Stavros Sifter, a career FBI insider and supervisor of Special Agent Avery Ryan for the Cyber Crime Division in Washington, D.C. Sifter quickly rose up the ranks and positioned himself in a job where he is the clearing house between FBI Cyber and all other branches of government. He is a shrewd and savvy networker; a charmer with a hint of malice. Drilling down to the core of his “Classified” status, Sifter knows what very few know behind the closed doors of the U.S. Government. The social networks and devices we use on a daily basis are the Government’s way of monitoring its citizens domestically and abroad — therefore, Sifter has the impossible task of controlling the amplification of cyber crime in an era where the collective world communicates electronically. »

Teen Choice Awards to Change Venue After UCLA Flood

4 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

This year’s Teen Choice Awards has been forced to change venues after water flooded Pauly Pavilion near UCLA earlier this week.

The show, set for Aug. 10 on Fox, will move to the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, according to the show’s producers.

“We wish the best to the team at UCLA as they begin repairs,” exec  producer Bob Bain said in a statement.

The arena suffered major damage Tuesday when a 30-inch water main broke on Sunset Boulevard, causing massive flooding at the UCLA campus.

Hosted by Tyler Posey and Sarah Hyland, “Teen Choice 2014” will air live on Fox on Aug. 10 at 8/7c.

Noel Black, Director of Cult Hit ‘Pretty Poison,’ Dies at 77

4 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Noel Black, who directed the 1968 black comedy “Pretty Poison,” a cult hit despite a diverse critical response, died of bacterial pneumonia at a hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif. on July 5. He was 77.

Starring Anthony Perkins and Tuesday Weld, “Pretty Poison” was adapted by Lorenzo Semple Jr. from Stephen Geller’s novel “She Let Him Continue.”

Perkins plays an arsonist who’s done his time and tries to win the affection of a pretty blond student, played by Weld. But despite a well-scrubbed facade, Weld’s character is in fact a psychopath, and soon the pair are committing a string of crimes, including homicide.

Twentieth Century Fox pulled the picture after weak box office, but when some critics championed the film, the studio re-released the movie, which began to pick up a cult following — a following that only grew with time.

It was released on DVD in 2006.
