Mark Zinni will be joining Hartford CBS affiliate WFSB.

According to the Hartford Courant, Zinni will join Denise D’Ascenzo as co-anchor of the 5:30 p.m. news.

In the announcement by news director Dana Neves Thursday,  Zinni will also  “report during the day, and introduce folks to some different and interesting topics around Connecticut,” apparently also taking over some of the duties being left behind by departing reporter Kate Rayner.

WFSB anchor Dennis House tweeted out a welcome to Zinni.

Zinni announced he was leaving Cleveland FOX affiliate WJW earlier this month. He’s also worked at KTVX in Salt Lake City, UT, WPRI in Providence, RI, WTOV in Stuebenville, OH, and WICU in Erie, PA.

Ellen Crooke, news director for Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA, has been named VP of News for parent company Gannett Broadcasting.

Crooke was also the and regional news executive for Gannett. She started with the station group in 2002 as VP of news for WGRZ in Buffalo. She joined WXIA in 2008.

“Ellen is a passionate and innovative leader who is committed to reinventing local journalism in this digital age,” Dave Lougee, president of Gannett Broadcasting said in a statement. “We’re excited to have her on the corporate team.”

Crooke had also worked as news director at WNDU in South Bend, IN, assistant news director at WHAS in Louisville, KY, and as a producer for WOKR (now WHAM) in Rochester, NY, and WTEN in Albany.

Yvonne Lewis, a weekend anchor and reporter for Tulsa’s KTUL, has decided to leave the world of TV news. According to an article in Tulsa World, the newswoman doesn’t know what she’s going to do next.

“I’m like a blank canvas. I have surrendered to God and am allowing Him to complete His masterpiece,” Lewis said. “I will say this is definitely a faith walk.”

Lewis had been at the ABC affiliate for 28 years. Her last on-air appearance will be sometime in September. A replacement has yet to be announced.

Roland Steadham, who joined Miami ABC affiliate WPLG just one year ago, will leave the station and head to Boise. TV NewsCheck reports Steadham will become chief meteorologist at Boise CBS affiliate KBOI on Sept. 15.

It’s another cross-country trip for Steadham, who joined WPLG from KTVX in Salt Lake City, where he was chief meteorologist. Before working at KTVX, he was chief meteorologist at cross town rival KUTV. Steadham was well known to South Florida viewers, having worked at both WSVN and WTVJ.

Former WESH anchor Wendy Chioji says “The Beast” she’s been fighting for years has “come roaring back.” Chioji first shared her battle with breast cancer while working at Orlando’s NBC affiliate in 2001, and underwent treatment again last fall for a fast-growing cancer of the thymus gland. She writes on her blog there’s a new threat, and “it just got more dramatic”:

As it did last fall, my MRI detected something suspicious. Small, but big enough for Dr. Shroff to pick up the phone. Yesterday’s CT scan confirmed: The cancer is back. Or maybe it never left. Maybe despite my miserable winter with radiation and chemo, The Beast was just lurking there, waiting for me to gain some traction in my life so it could come roaring back out.

There are 4-5 small tumors in my chest wall (could be worse… could be in my lungs. How ironic would that be, for me, ME, to get lung cancer?) that weren’t there in April. I only half-heard him say it then, but now, I vividly remember my Huntsman oncology quarterback, Dr Akerley telling me in October that if the radiation/chemo didn’t kill this cancer, that’s all he had up his sleeve. We were hoping the ghastly treatment would buy me more time, but it didn’t.

Three weeks ago, everything was fine. Today, I’m looking for a Hail Mary pass. I’d say this is a fairly graphic illustration of the fact that you have to live EVERY day like it could be your last.

Philadelphia FOX owned station WTXF has named Keith Russell weekend anchor and anchor for Game Day Live.

Russell replaces Colleen Wolfe who is leaving the station Sunday. She started at WTXF in 2012.

From 2005 until 2012, Russell worked at Philadelphia ABC station WPVI before leaving to work as a news anchor at WRC in Washington, D.C. He has also anchored sports for CNN and ESPN, WJAR in Providence, RI, WJTV in Jackson, MS and WHLT in Hattiesburg, MS.

Russell will also contribute to the 10:30 p.m. Sports Sunday show.

Detroit ABC affiliate WXYZ has unveiled plans for a new downtown studio for 7 Action News at Noon with Joanne Purtan.

The Scripps owned station said the “glass enclosed, outward-facing studio inside the ground-floor lobby of Chase Tower” will open in the fall and will feature views of Woodward Avenue and Campus Martius Park.

WXYZ VP and GM Ed Fernandez said in a statement, “This studio will give 7 Action News viewers an exciting front-row seat to the city’s incredible rebirth and allow us to connect in meaningful new ways with people making a difference and guiding Detroit’s transformation.”

Elizabeth Hur, a reporter at CBS O&O KYW in Philadelphia, has decided to leave the station. Hur tells the Philadelphia Daily News she wants to “try something new”:

“Truly, the decision to leave comes from my ambition to grow and my desire to explore new challenges,” Hur said, noting that the station tried to work with her until she ultimately decided to leave.

Hur, who grew up in Ambler and graduated from Upper Dublin High School before matriculating at NYU, joined CBS3 in 2008. Before that, Hur, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, was an intern at the station, covering both the Democratic and Republican conventions in 2000.

LIN Media announced today it has signed a “comprehensive, long-term” agreement to renew affiliation agreements with CBS in 10 markets.

The agreement includes WIAT in Birmingham, AL, WIVB in Buffalo, NY, KRQE, KBIM and KREZ in Albuquerque, NM, WPRI in Providence, RI, WANE in Fort Wayne, IN, WTHI in Terre Haute, IN, KIMT in Mason City, IA, KOIN in Portland, OR, WKBN in Youngstown, OH and WLFI in Lafayette, IN.

“We are pleased to have reached long-­term agreements with CBS,” Vincent L. Sadusky, president and CEO of LIN Media said in a statement. “Our stations are important assets to our local communities and these new agreements ensure that LIN Media and CBS will continue to serve local viewers with high-­‐quality network programming.”

LIN recently lost the CBS affiliation at its Indianapolis station WISH, the Indianapolis Star reported, LIN stands to lose as much as $100 million after its proposed deal with Media General was revalued after the loss.
