Glenn Beck: ‘Somebody Stupid is Going to do Something Stupid and it Will Escalate’

“Reliable Sources” has released a preview of this morning’s Glenn Beck interview. Brian Stelter sat down with the former Fox News host, and CEO of Mercury Radio Arts to talk about polarization in the nation.

“I believe that we are in — I think we’re a country in civil war,” says Beck. “I just think we’re in a cold civil war. Shooting hasn’t started, but somebody stupid is going to do something stupid and it will escalate unless we talk to each other.”

“You read the comments, you read them on the Huffington Post or you read them on TheBlaze or CNN or Fox News, it doesn’t matter. They’re all the same, left and right. We’re calling each other horrible things,” says Beck. The interview airs in full at 11amET on CNN.

Bianna Golodryga Says Goodbye to ‘Good Morning America’

Bianna Golodryga gets her weekends back.

This morning the “Good Morning America” co-anchor signed off after four years on the show. Golodryga is joining Yahoo! as news and finance anchor. “It has been a true privilege sitting with all of you,” said Golodryga to her o-air colleagues. “I think people at home know, you can’t make this up, the friendship and the connection and the chemistry. Who else wants to wake up at 4 in the morning, unless they’re going to come in and be with people they love.”

The Sunday Ticker: Kathie Lee’s Musical, Claman’s Triathlon, Murdoch’s Bid

  • Kathie Lee Gifford revealed this week that she has written a musical about the “Today” show.  The 18-minute musical, titled “Not Today and Tomorrow’s Not Looking Good Either,” features all the show’s anchors and crew. “It’s going to be live and it’s going to be so much fun,” Gifford said on “Today” Friday.

  • Fox Business anchor Liz Claman does a pair of interviews — with the Star-Ledger and Well + Good — about competing in her sixth New York City triathlon today. Claman is raising money for Building Homes For Heroes, a charity for wounded war veterans. “They embraced me and I embraced them and, to date, I’ve brought in $350,000 since I started raising money for them four years ago,” Claman said.

  • Variety reports on how far Rupert Murdoch will go to acquire Time Warner, which a managing director at RBC Capital Markets calls “the $64,000 question.” “It’s not purely what Time Warner’s worth, it’s what Fox can pay,” he says.

Weekend Morning Show Ratings: July Sweeps

“Good Morning America Saturday” and “CBS Sunday Morning” were the winning weekend morning shows for the just-completed July sweeps period.

On Saturdays, “GMA” won in both total viewers and the A25-54 demographic, winning its sixth consecutive sweep in total viewers and fifth consecutive sweep in the demo. Compared to the year-ago sweep, “GMA” was the only show to grow, up +2% in total viewers and +4% in the demo. The Saturday editions of “CBS This Morning” and NBC’s “Today” were down across the board.

On Sundays, “CBS Sunday Morning” was on top as usual, besting the Sunday editions of “Good Morning America” and “Today” in both total viewers and the A25-54 demo. “Good Morning America” was second in both ratings measurements and was the only show to be up across the board, +6% in total viewers and +10% in the demo. “CBS Sunday Morning” was up +8% in total viewers and down -2% in the demo, while the Sunday edition of “Today” was down -3% and -10%, respectively.

The Saturday Ticker: Beck, Meade, Williams

  • Glenn Beck will be a guest on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” tomorrow. The CEO of Mercury Radio Arts, and former Fox News host, will talk about where he plans to take his media empire next.

  • HLN’s Robin Meade gets guest co-hosts from the sports world for “Morning Express” next week. Former LA Laker Rick Fox will guest co-host Monday and Tuesday, while NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson is in on Wednesday.

  • NBC’s Brain Williams has been named to the New Jersey Hall of Fame class of 2014. “I accept with gratitude and humility,” Williams tells the Star-Ledger. “It is home for me. I was born at Exit 165 and raised at Exit 114. This is just a tremendous honor for me and my family.”

A CNBC Original Steps Aside

ScottCohnScott Cohn, who was on of the original CNBC employees, is leaving full-time work with the business channel, and moving to Santa Cruz, CA where his wife will expand her business in the education field. Cohn will continue to contribute to the network.

In a memo from CNBC president Mark Hoffman, as first reported by Talking Biz News, Cohn joined CNBC on March 20, 1989, a month before the network launched, as part of the original NY/NJ reporting team. In 1990, Cohn opened the Chicago Bureau, where he would stay for 9 years, before returning to headquarters.

He has covered most of the biggest business and general news stories of the past 25 years—from Enron and WorldCom to Hurricane Katrina and the Boston Marathon bombings. He has interviewed the famous and infamous, from Warren Buffett (his first live interview on CNBC in 1998) to Bernie Madoff. His documentaries have showcased the best of CNBC’s reporting.

In a couple of weeks, Scott will leave CNBC to make his journey West. In addition to some teaching and trying his hand at producing documentaries, he will become a special correspondent for CNBC, continuing to spearhead the annual Top States extravaganza.

Please join us in wishing Scott all the very best in his new adventure.

Pres. Obama Delivers Statement From White House Briefing Room

President Obama delivered a statement from the White House Briefing Room this afternoon on the economy and Washington gridlock. The cable and broadcast networks had live coverage of the press conference, which included questions from the press after the President delivered his remarks.

“Good Morning America” weekend news anchor Ron Claiborne anchored an ABC News special report, joined by Jonathan Karl. On NBC, David Gregory anchored with Chuck Todd at the White House. James Brown anchored on CBS with Bill Plante at the White House.

The cable news networks also took the President’s statement live: Jenna Lee anchored on Fox News with Wendell Goler at the White House, Krystal Ball anchored for MSNBC with Chris Jansing at the White House, and Anderson Cooper anchored for CNN with Wolf Blitzer in Jerusalem, Jake Tapper in Washington and Michelle Kosinski at the White House.

> First question goes to Roberta Rampton from Reuters, who asked about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

> Second question goes to Bill Plante from CBS News, who asked the President if he’s losing his international influence. In his response, Obama says that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been going on “even longer than you’ve been reporting.”

> Third question goes to Fox News’ Wendell Goler, who asks about the President’s executive orders.

> Fourth and last question goes to CNN’s Michelle Kosinski, who asks if a cease-fire in Gaza is realistic.
