What: Pittsburgh Zoo’s & PPG Aquarium’s 16th annual Summer Safari.

When and Where: It was a perfect night for a safari (not a cloud in sight) for roughly 1,500 guests who partied the night away on Friday at the 16th annual Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium Summer Safari.

#ItsGoodToGive: Jim “Doc” Mendelson founded this event with a group of friends 17 years ago. “I wanted to do something for the younger generation. I wanted to see them grow up loving the zoo, bring their families here and see the importance of it in our community. You have to give back to the neighborhood.” Anita Moran, an animal lover who has chaired the event for 11 years, said, “The zoo does so much good in our community. Without zoos getting involved, the snow leopards would be extinct.”

Party the Night Away: Guests were treated to an array of yummy goodies from around the city, complimentary massages for VIPers, aerial performers, steel drum band Calypso Gypsies, and plenty of opportunities for #SEENSelfies with animals of all kinds, including a tarantula, an armadillo and two baby zebras.
