Fox's Sick-Kid Drama Red Band Society 'Is Not a Show That Has a Body Count'

Fox’s upcoming drama Red Band Society — which takes place in the children’s wing of a hospital — is not assigning a ticking clock to each of its patients.

“Yes, there are serious things that these kids are going to have to face. But it’s not a show that has a body count,” executive producer Margaret Nagle promised Sunday at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

James Garner, Star of Maverick and Rockford Files, Dead at 86

Veteran actor James Garner, who won two Emmy Awards throughout his prolific TV career, died Saturday night. He was 86.

The cause of death is not yet known.

Though Garner amassed quite a list of TV and film credits throughout the years, his breakout role on the small screen was that of gambler Bret Maverick in the 1950s Western Maverick. He also starred in 1970s crime drama The Rockford Files, a role that landed him his first Emmy in 1977. (The other came in 1987, for his work as a producer on CBS’ Hallmark Hall of Fame movie Promise.)

TCA Awards 2014: Good Wife, Oitnb, True Detective, Veep, Breaking Bad, RuPaul Among Winners

The Good Wife won the best drama series prize at Sunday’s 2014 Television Critics Association Awards, besting Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, The Americans and House of Cards.

Rush, Satisfaction Premiere to Sub- Graceland Ratings; Married Does Ok

USA Network’s new bad-boy doctor drama Rush premiered to 1.7 million total viewers and a 0.4 demo rating — or about half of what the cabler’s previous drama debut, Graceland, did a year ago (3.3 mil/0.8) on a Thursday night, and opposite the NBA Finals.

The provocative new drama explores the the emotional and psychological effects of an extramarital affair between Hamptons waitress Alison (Luther‘s Ruth Wilson) and author Noah (The Wire‘s Dominic West) — but there’s a twist, as glimpsed in the show’s first trailer: The story is told from both Alison and Noah’s unique points of view.
