NBC has busted out its weapon of choice.

The network announced that it has cast Oscar winner Christopher Walken as Captain Hook in its live musical production of Peter Pan, which will air Dec. 4. "Funny, right?" NBC Chairman Bob Greenblatt said at the Television Critics Association fall previews on Sunday. "He's one of the most unique actors... but he's just really a song and dance man at heart... It'll be the first tap-dancing Captain Hook you've ever seen."

Amazon’s ‘The After’: Creator Chris Carter ‘Needed a Good Break’ After ‘The X-Files’

12 July 2014 1:28 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“X-Files” creator Chris Carter will soon return to screens with Amazon Studios’ “The After,” more than ten years after Fox’s cult sci-fi hit left the air. While an airdate for the Amazon Prime Instant Video series has yet to be announced beyond an “early 2015″ window, during a panel at the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour, Carter did confirm that the series will debut on a week-by-week basis instead of the entire season being released at once (the opposite model to fellow Amazon series “Transparent,” which will bow all ten of its half-hour episodes in late September).

Carter admitted that he “needed a good break” following the conclusion of “The X-Files,” since he’d spent “10 years of output [and] needed the equivalent input” in order to recharge creatively.

In “The After,” eight strangers are thrown together by mysterious forces and must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation. »

NBC explains why it canceled 'Community'

4 hours ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

It was the ratings, of course. But NBC’s top entertainment executives went on record to give a little more insight into their decision-making process on canceling Community and The Michael J. Fox Show last season.

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt told reporters at his Television Critics Association press tour session in Beverly Hills on Sunday that the Community fandom’s “six seasons and a movie” mantra had nothing to do with the network.

“That sixth season thing was created by them — I’m surprised they didn’t say ’10 seasons and a movie,’” the executive said. “And before my time »

Katherine Heigl Addresses Rumors of Bad Behavior: ‘I Certainly Don’t See Myself as Being Difficult’

30 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

“State of Affairs” star Katherine Heigl was asked to address speculation that she and her mother are “difficult to work with” at NBC’s Television Critics Assn. summer press tour presentation Sunday.

Seeming momentarily unsure how to answer, a flustered Heigl haltingly offered, “I certainly don’t see myself as being difficult. I would never intend to be difficult. I don’t think my mother sees herself as being difficult. I think it’s important to everybody to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully and kindly, so if I’ve ever disappointed somebody, it was never intentional.”

Showrunner Ed Bernero attempted to come to Heigl’s defense and answer the question in her stead, but the reporter insisted that Heigl respond.

The star once described Judd Apatow’s “Knocked Up” as “a little sexist” and criticized the movie’s portrayal of its female characters: “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, »

'Game of Thrones' vs. 'Game of Crowns' and other fictional-turned-reality shows

43 minutes ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Game of Thrones is the latest fictional show to get the reality treatment — well, sort of. Tonight, Bravo premieres Game of Crowns, a reality show that sounds suspiciously like the HBO fantasy drama but is really about pageant ladies vying for the winning tiara. Which, you know, could get as dangerous as Game of Thrones.

This isn’t the first time a fictional show has spawned a similar-sounding reality show. MTV released Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County in 2004 after seeing how successful the fictional The O.C. was; Bravo did something similar when they launched The Real Housewives in »

Katherine Heigl: 'I don't see myself as difficult'

It was the question everybody wanted to ask—and it got so awkward when someone finally did.

NBC’s State of Affairs panel during the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills got a bit tense when the topic turned to Katherine Heigl, her mother Nancy (an executive producer on the upcoming series), and rumors about the pair’s reputation on set.

It started when a TCA reporter reminded Heigl about some of the controversial remarks she had to say about Hollywood, particularly focused on her conduct on set, whether her career was out of her control, and whether »

Last year’s Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony was dubbed “the saddest Emmys of all time,” punctuated with individual in memoriam segments that cast a depressing pall over the evening.

While Meyers admitted he’s “limited by the fact I can’t sing or dance,” so will be relying on his monologue skills to kick the show off, Mischer is confident that »
