Last week I picked my KF HD from a Croma retail store. Really happy with the device. They have now slashed the price of the 7 inch model - maybe an indication that the next generation of KF HDs is round the corner. The rumoured specs of the next generation are fantastic, but the current version is extremely impressive too. Here are my feedbacks on a few commonly sought after features -
1. Display and performance: The screen is fantastic and performance is top notch. I don't care whether it uses a dual core or a quad core processor, as long as it does the job fast enough.
2. Apps: Yes! you don't have access to the "Google Play Store", but I personally don't care about it much. I have found all the apps that I need in the Amazon App store - including a free app to play/download youtube videos. Plus you get a free app everyday from the App store - and sometimes they do give away some of the coolest apps under this section.
3. Media: I did read in some of the reviews people complaining about KF unable to play some video files. However with the mobo Player and VLC (both free) I did not have any problems in playing any video files. The playback was seamless with fantastic pictures. The sound quality is easily the best I have heard from any tablet.
4. Others: The micro HDMI port is a huge advantage over the rival tablets like N7. I could easily hook up my KF with my HD projector. Amazon also offers free "Prime" membership to KF owners for a limited 30 day period - but I have not tried that out yet.
Overall, it is easily one of the best tablets out in the market - especially for its price (just 12k for the 16 gig version). Go get one - you won't regret.

Bought this keeping in mind the content available in Amazon. But disappointed with it. You can become a prime member in India, but you can not stream most of the English movies. You can not subscribe to "Free Time Unlimited" (so I have to purchase all the books, games and movies separately), if you have bought it through Amazon India. So some of the best features bundled with the kindle fire is reserved for some geographies. So please make sure you are clear with the features available in India before purchasing it.
It is slow - takes about 30 seconds to boot up. The synch with the Amazon cloud account is confusing. Sometimes the synch just won't work.

My Kindle Fire is more than a year old, beyond the warranty. It has developed a problem in the charging port. I am unable to charge. As per Amazon India customer service, they cannot have the device repaired. They do not have a service centre in India. Since I can't use it any more because I can't charge it, I would have to throw away the device. Not happy it all with Kindle and Amazon.

I was surprised at the very good quality of audio. It's far better than the ipad audio. What i really loved is sending a 200 page word document to my kindle email id and then it converts it to an ebook which results in far superior reading experience.

I fell in love with Kindle the moment it was released in the US. That was a l-o-o-ng time ago, by the net-standards that all of us are used to. Many Kindles after that I finally came to Kindle Fire HD. Most of these Kindles were presented to me when my cousins and uncles/aunts realized how I love the Kindle experience.
Coming now to Kindle Fire HD, it is a misnomer to call it a Kindle. It is much much more than what the Kindle or the Kindle paper-white deliver. If the name "Kindle" has to be kept, then it would be better to call it Post-kindle or Ultra-kindle.
Kindle Fire, first of all, gives you a full-color experience. Since more and more Kindle books are becoming available in color, and since an increasing number of these books now incorporate good-quality color pictures, one needs a Kindle Fire to fully experience many of the latest generation Kindle eBooks. More so if you spend most of your time with non-fiction.
*** In addition, Kindle Fire also gives you numerous apps, helps you to surf the web, and has plenty of games on offer.
*** Since Kindle Fire is likely to attract children (which the normal Kindle rarely does), it has an exceptionally tough screen.
*** It has an amazing sound system for music lovers.
*** It also offers integrated support for facebook, twitter, and the major email providers.
*** And then it has an untold range of other facilities which need to be explored to be enjoyed.
Recommendations:

Pros:screen,audio,battery backup,fast wifi,very good browsing experience.

Happy with Kindle!
The delivery, packing, ease of use all quite fine. Doesn't charge up fast on USB. You surely need the charger. That is another 12 hundred + to the price. Disruptive tech, sure.
