NBC renews 'The Night Shift' for a second season

15 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

In a triumph of desperately bad key art, NBC has renewed the motorcycling ER doc drama "The Night Shift" for a second season. NBC confirms that the second season of "The Night Shift" will be extended to 14 episodes, possibly allowing for an episode that's nothing but leading man Eoin Macken cruising around a hospital on his bike, since there has been almost none of that on the series, despite the compelling gallery art. "The Night Shift" was almost an afterthought in a four-series deal between NBC and Sony Pictures TV on Upfronts Eve last May. The deal got NBC a final low-rated season of "Community" (since resurrected by Yahoo), a few episodes of the embarrassingly low-rated "Welcome To The Family" and the smash hit "The Blacklist." Although it was held off of NBC's schedule until the summer, "The Night Shift" has capitalized on its hilarious key art and, to a much greater extent, »

CBS Orders ‘Zoo,’ Based on James Patterson Novel, for Summer 2015

15 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

CBS said it would add a sci-fi drama, “Zoo,” to its lineup for next summer, continuing a recent effort to launch escapist fare with elements of the supernatural and the extraterrestrial for a time of year when broadcast networks once largely kept new programming on the shelf.

The network said “Zoo,” based on the 2012 thriller by author James Patterson, would consist of 13 episodes and was given a straight-to-series order.

The series looks at the fallout from a wave of violent animal attacks against humans across the planet. As the assaults become more coordinated and fierce, a young renegade biologist tries to unlock the pandemic’s mystery.

Jeff Pinkner, Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec and Scott Rosenberg wrote the script and are executive producers with James Mangold, Cathy Konrad, James Patterson, Bill Robinson, Leopoldo Gout and Steve Bowen.

“’Zoo’ further demonstrates our commitment to high-quality, year-round programming and to high-concept series that »

'Wonder Woman' getting husband-and-wife creative team

10 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman has been one of the creative bright spots in DC Comics’ New 52 relaunch. The Azzarello/Chiang run comes to an end in October, and DC has some intriguing succession plans. The publisher tells USA Today that Wonder Woman #36 will mark the beginning of a collaboration between writer Meredith Finch and artist David Finch. »
