'Think Like a Man Too' Tops Box Office with $12.2 Million

3 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Comedy sequel Think Like a Man Too had a solid first place opening on Friday, while Clint Eastwood's Jersey Boys failed to make much noise.Playing at 2,225 locations, Think Like a Man Too took the top spot with an estimated $12.2 million. That's almost identical to the first movie's $12.1 million. Considering it's a sequel opening during the Summer, it's likely to be more front-loaded; still, a weekend north of $30 million is likely. In second place, 22 Jump Street plummeted 63 percent to an estimated $9.4 million. Keeping in mind how big the movie's opening day was, that drop isn't entirely surprising. The comedy sequel has earned $91.9 million through eight days, and should pass $100 million sometime today. How to Train Your Dragon 2 fell 59 percent to an estimated $7.6 million. That's a rough drop for an animated movie: in comparison, Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted fell 51 percent, while Monsters University fell 53 percent. For the weekend, »

Kevin Feige on ‘Ant-Man’ Dust Up: ‘It Will Still be Based on What Edgar Created’

19 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Kevin Feige has opened up about all of Marvel's upcoming properties, including the now very controversial “Ant-Man” and the highly hyped “Doctor Strange,” at the CineEurope event in Barcelona on Friday, reports TotalFilm.com. “Ant-Man” recently stirred controversy when Edgar Wright abruptly left the director's chair after having worked on the film for years with Feige and Marvel. Reportedly the two sides couldn't come to a consensus on the script, though Feige says much of what Wright wrote with Joe Cornish still remains — even as Adam McKay was brought in to give the script a polish and Peyton Reed came on. »

Aaron Sorkin in Talks for ‘Flash Boys’ at Sony

21 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Sony Pictures is in early talks for Aaron Sorkin to adapt Michael Lewis’ real-life financial drama “Flash Boys: A Wall Street Revolt.”

Sorkin won a screenwriting Oscar in 2010 for adapting Lewis’ “The Social Network” for Sony.

Scott Rudin, a producer on “The Social Network,” and Eli Bush are producing “Flash Boys.” That book, published March 31 by W.W. Norton, focuses on high-frequency trading in the financial markets and possible market manipulation.

Lewis alleges in the book that the stock market is “rigged” by high frequency traders being able to “front run” orders ahead of other traders. “Flash Guys” also focuses on the creation of Iex, the Investor’s Exchange, aimed at eliminating the advantage of high-frequency trading.

Lewis also wrote “Moneyball,” which the studio acquired in 2004. Brad Pitt starred in and produced “Moneyball,” released in 2011 with Sony-based Rudin exec producing; Sorkin received an Oscar nomination for the screenplay.

Sony Sequels 'Think Like a Man Too' and '22 Jump Street' Dominate Mixed Friday Box Office

2 hours ago | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Compared to last year's numbers, Friday's domestic box office took the sharpest overall drop of 2014, with no new tentpoles opening because of the ongoing World Cup -- and in anticipation of next week's "Transformers" juggernaut. And since summertime release dates are always created with an eye on international markets, the two new films are aimed much more toward domestic audiences. Sony's "Think Like a Man Too" topped the day with $12.2 million, about the same as the April Friday take for the first "Think Like a Man." This marks the second number one opening this year for both director Tim Story and star Kevin Hart, whose "Ride Along" opened in January. But this success wasn't enough to stanch the overall drop, with the Top 10 grossing $46 million for the day, compared to $80 million the same Friday in 2013. Last year saw three films gross more than "Think Like a Man Too," with the much more expensive, »

Audiences didn't have to think very hard about which new movie to see on Friday, as the Kevin Hart comedy "Think Like a Man 2" earned a solid $12.2 million. Clint Eastwood's "Jersey Boys" was singing a much sadder song.  Screen Gems' "Think," a sequel to the 2012 hit, is on its way to $32 million or so for the weekend. That puts it just about on the same level as the first film, which earned $33.6 in its opening weekend.  "Think 2" also stars Michael Ealy, Jerry Ferrara, Meagan Good, Regina Hall and Gabrielle Union. Another comedy sequel -- "22 Jump Street," starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill -- took second place, picking up another $9.4 million. Its domestic total stands at $91.8 million.  Yet another sequel -- DreamWorks Animation's "How to Train Your Dragon 2" -- flew at No. 3, scaring up another $7.6 million.
