2010 Census

2010 Census Local-Level Data — Since February, we have begun to see the portrait of America take shape, as each state receives local-level 2010 Census data on race, Hispanic origin, the voting age population and housing units. As required by law, the Census Bureau provides these key demographic data to the states (on a state-by-state flow basis) so state governments can redraw the boundaries of their congressional and state legislative districts. The data began rolling out the first week of February, with announcements about which states will be included in the following week's data releases. States to be released the week of March 14: Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota and Tennessee.

Note: The Public Information Office Call Center is remaining open for media calls until 5 p.m. (in your state's time zone) as each P.L. 94-171 data are released.

2010 Census Interactive Maps — As the 2010 Census redistricting files are issued, the Census Bureau is also releasing interactive state maps showing county-level population change from 1960 to 2010, as well as state-level data on race and Hispanic or Latino origin for 2010. The widget can be embedded on your website and will update as additional states are released. It can be found at <http://2010.census.gov/2010census/data/>.

Demographic

Dynamics of Economic Well-Being: Poverty, 2004-2006 — Analytical report on the duration of poverty spells and the frequency of transitions into and out of poverty based on the Survey of Income and Program Participation. It focuses on episodic and chronic poverty, length of poverty, exits from poverty and the characteristics of the affected population. (Scheduled for release in March.)

Fertility of American Women: 2010 — Profiles fertility patterns of American women by age, race, ethnicity, education, marital status, income and nativity. (Scheduled for release in March.)

Economic

Survey of Business Owners: American Indian- and Alaska Native-Owned Businesses: 2007 — This release will be highlighted at a Web news conference <http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/business_ownership/cb11-46.html> on March 15 at 2 p.m. EDT. The event will consist of a simultaneous audio conference and webinar. Data sets show the number of privately owned firms, sales and receipts, number of paid employees and annual payroll of American Indian and Alaska Native businesses. These data do not include tribally-owned businesses. For the first time since 2002, counties and metropolitan areas and cities can see profiles of American Indian- and Alaska Native-owned businesses in their area. (Scheduled for release March 15.)

2009 Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS) — This brief highlights the most recent update to the BDS, showing the difference between job creation and destruction in the U.S. between March 2008 and March 2009. The BDS provides annual statistics from 1976 to 2009 by firm age and size. This data set results from a collaboration between the U.S. Census Bureau's Center for Economic Studies and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. (Scheduled for release in March.)

2009 State and Local Government Employee Retirement Systems — Provides an annual look at the financial activity of the nation's state and local public employee retirement systems, including cash and security investment holdings, receipts and payments. (Scheduled for release in March.)

State Government Tax Collections: 2010 — This survey provides an annual summary of taxes collected by state for up to 25 categories, such as property tax, sales and gross receipts taxes, license taxes, income taxes and others. Data also provide details on tax collections by type of tax imposed and collected by state governments. (Scheduled for release in March.)

2010 4th Quarter Summary of State and Local Government Tax Revenue — This summary shows quarterly tax revenue data on property, sales, licenses, income and other taxes. Data are shown for individual state governments as well as national-level estimates of total state and local taxes, including 12-month calculations. This quarterly survey has been conducted continuously since 1962. (Scheduled for release in March.)

Finances of Selected State and Local Government Employee Retirement Systems: 4th Quarter 2010 — This quarterly survey provides national summary data on the revenues, expenditures and composition of assets of the 100 largest state and local public employee retirement systems in the United States. These 100 systems comprise 89.4 percent of financial activity among such entities, based on the 2007 Census of Governments. This survey presents the most current data about investment decisions by state and local public employee retirement systems, which are among the largest types of institutional investors in the U.S. financial markets. These data tables are published three months after each calendar quarter and show national financial transactions and trends for the past five years. (Scheduled for release in March.)

Economic Indicators — The Census Bureau releases statistics that provide monthly, quarterly and yearly updates on key measures of the nation's economic condition. Upcoming releases in March include monthly wholesale trade: sales and inventories, U.S. international trade in goods and services and advance monthly sales for retail and food services. Facts for Features

Older Americans Month (May) — To celebrate the contributions of our nation's approximately 40 million 65-and-older residents, data are presented on their demographic characteristics, such as their levels of income and education, living arrangements and labor force status. (Scheduled for release in March.)

Cinco de Mayo — “The Fifth of May,” a national holiday in Mexico, has become a time to celebrate Mexican heritage and culture. (Scheduled for release in March.)
