The Buzz: Zac Efron makes his hard-R comedy debut while Seth Rogen continues to rebuilds after This Is the End put his somewhat spotty 2011/2012 behind him. If director Nicholas Stoller cribs from himself, he should have his biggest crowd-pleasing hit to date.

A chef who loses his restaurant job starts up a food truck in an effort to reclaim his creative promise, while piecing back together his estranged family.

The Buzz: This apparent metaphor for Jon Favreau's dismissal from the Iron Man director's chair might be one of the most discussed/least scene releases of the season?

Certificate PG   -   Comedy

All Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and fun - a long-needed moms' night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation, and food not served in a bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for a few hours ... what could go wrong?

The Buzz: This wholesome comedy is sort of like Adventures in Motherhood with seemingly subtle Christian-faith underpinnings that shouldn't rile non-Believers. It's cool to see "Grey's Anatomy" vet Sarah Drew get a big-screen moment.

Certificate PG   -   Animation | Family | Musical

Dorothy wakes up in post-tornado Kansas, only to be whisked back to Oz to try to save her old friends the Scarecrow, the Lion, the Tin Man and Glinda from a devious new villain, the Jester. Wiser the owl, Marshal Mallow, China Princess and Tugg the tugboat join Dorothy on her latest magical journey through the colorful landscape of Oz to restore order and happiness to Emerald City.

The Buzz: This just might be one of the itchiest examples of how public-domain policy works in relation to classic literature.

Certificate R   -   Drama

Metascore: 28/100 (4 reviews)
When Mickey's crazy stepson Leon is killed in a construction 'accident', nobody in the working class neighborhood of God's Pocket is sorry he's gone. Mickey tries to bury the bad news with the body, but when the boy's mother demands the truth, Mickey finds himself stuck in a life and death struggle between a body he can't bury, a wife he can't please and a debt he can't pay.

The Buzz: Still hard to accept that one day there won't be any new Philip Seymour Hoffman movies to sit and enjoy quietly, but we're happy knowing that one of the last sets he worked on was for John Slattery, another exceptional actor making his debut as a director.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi

The world's most famous monster is pitted against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity's scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

The Buzz: More than glimpses at towering CGI creatures, we love it when blockbusters have credible actresses and actors on board for the potential blockbuster/ill-conceived flop. In this particular instance, we're treated to Monsters (2010) director Gareth Edwards working from a Frank Darabont-aided screenplay, so our expectations are high.

Certificate PG Biography | Drama | Sport

A sports agent stages an unconventional recruitment strategy to get talented Asian cricket players to play Major League Baseball.
Director:

The Buzz: Although he's already proved himself as a valuable supporting actor on the big screen (especially in comedies), this sports drama could help secure Jon Hamm's leading-man status as "Mad Men" winds down to its finale (as a somewhat diminished TV series). Quirky director Craig Gillespie makes his first pitch at mainstream success as well.

Certificate PG-13   -   Action | Adventure | Fantasy | Sci-Fi

The X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants.
Director:

The Buzz: We're pretty into the idea of Wolverine as John Connor in what we're thinking could be the last hurrah for the original X-Men cast. Although with the recent announcement that a clip from this movie would screen after The Amazing Spider-Man 2, entertainment chatterboxes are wondering if Fox and Sony might be building some sort of Marvel Bridge for the future?

Certificate PG-13   -   Comedy

After a bad blind date, a man and woman find themselves stuck together at a resort for families, where their attraction grows as their respective kids benefit from the burgeoning relationship.

The Buzz: Drew Barrymore's first movie in two years also arrives a decade after her last on-screen pairing with Adam Sandler (50 First Dates). This comedy is a wise move as audiences seem to want Sandler to play a family guy the most these days. We also hope that Drew will follow-up her under-appreciated Whip It with another outing as director.

Certificate PG   -   Action | Adventure | Family | Fantasy | Romance

A vindictive fairy is driven to curse an infant princess only to realize the child may be the only one who can restore peace.

The Buzz: Remember when Angelina Jolie almost starred as the evil queen in Snow White and the Huntsman? (It was around the time she passed on Gravity). Well, she was attracted to this project back when Tim Burton was developing it, and she remained on board during the myriad director/co-star shuffles. And we love that she considers this story to be the kind of movie she can watch with her children. As for the rest of the cast: wow, you've got the new Doctor (Who), a welcome mainstream appearance from Elle Fanning, ditto Imelda Staunton, and India Eisley playing the young version of the title character. Ms. Eisley looks so much like Angelina, they should just cast her in the Tomb Raider reboot already.

Certificate R Comedy | Western

As a cowardly farmer begins to fall for the mysterious new woman in town, he must put his new-found courage to the test when her husband, a notorious gun-slinger, announces his arrival.
Director:

The Buzz: From the look of things, Seth MacFarlane will break the Western-comedy curse with his follow-up to Ted since it's shaping up to be the most subversive and beloved addition to the subgenre since Blazing Saddles (?).
