'Penny Dreadful' trailer: We're all monsters -- Video

Monsters of classic literature — they’re just like us.

In a new trailer for Showtime’s horror series Penny Dreadful, the show’s leads attempt to persuade — or reassure — viewers that their dark tendencies are simply human nature. Or are we all just monsters masquerading as men? The drama, set in Victorian London, does intertwine the origin stories of various classic horror characters, after all.

“No matter what secrets you possess, no matter what fears you hold, no matter what darkness you hide, no wonder how monstrous your dreams, no matter what hungers you feel, there are others just like you, »

The order comes a month after the family cable network axed the drama pilot Alice in Arabia when it received significant backlash from Muslim civil liberties organizations for its plotlines and portrayals of the community.

Its docu-style helped launch a TV trend away from studio-based sitcoms and gave NBC a much-needed anchor on TV’s most competitive night. Last year, after nine seasons, The Office closed its doors. Below creator Greg Daniels looks back on the final episode.

Entertainment Weekly: So how did the final season come about? »
