Egan III, the man who is suing “X-Men” director Bryan Singer for sexual abuse, says that there is more legal action coming — not just in Hawaii, where the first lawsuit against Singer was filed, but potentially also back in California. “I'm going to file three more lawsuits Monday in Hawaii alleging three other Hollywood insiders who were participating in the abuses of Mike Egan… did the trips to Hawaii and he was abused there as well,” Jeff Herman, a lawyer who specializes in sex abuse cases, told TheWrap late on Friday. Once in a Lifetime 'The Hateful Eight' Live Read with "Tarantino superstars!"

2 hours ago | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

Some three weeks back over chili cheese fries, Quentin Tarantino suggested to his buddy, interviewer Elvis Mitchell, that he might want to do a live read of his first-draft screenplay of "The Hateful Eight." Director Jason Reitman has been staging Hollywood classics at Film Independent at Lacma for the past three years, including Tarantino's "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs." Needless to say, Mitchell and his team made it happen.  "I'm wondering why I thought this was a good idea three weeks ago," admitted a nervous Tarantino as he doffed his black cowboy hat to a crowd of revved-up fans and Hollywood hipsters downtown at the refurbished United Artists Theatre at the Ace Hotel. "We've been rehearsing this for the last three days." He also warned that nobody else will ever see the final chapter of this typically verbose five-part western, which plays like a twisted post-Civil War sequel to "Django Unchained. »

Inside Tarantino's 'Hateful Eight' Reading: Director Reveals He's Writing Second Draft, With New Ending

4 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Quentin Tarantino told a standing-room-only crowd gathered for a staged reading of his latest film script, The Hateful Eight, that this was the one and only time they would see it with the current ending, in which all of the movie’s major characters die. Speaking to an eclectic crowd that included only a handful of prominent industry-ites (among them Harvey Weinstein and Tarantino’s Wme agent, Mike Simpson), he said the movie was divided into five parts, or “chapters,” and that “I am working right now on a second draft. This is the first draft.” Analysis:

Quentin Tarantino’s Still Working on ‘The Hateful Eight’

4 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

After the script of Quentin Tarantino’ s “The Hateful Eight” was leaked in January, the director said he had “no desire to make it.” Well, it’s safe to say he’s reconsidered. At Film Independent’s staged reading of “The Hateful Eight” on Saturday at Downtown L.A.’s Ace Hotel, Tarantino said he was working on a second draft and a third would also come.

“This is the first draft,” he clarified. Tarantino noted that the final chapter, chapter five titled “Black Night, White Hell,” has been rewritten and “this is the only time you’ll see” this version.

In a black cowboy hat and western shirt, the director introduced in order of appearance “the Tarantino All-Stars,” all alums of his previous films: Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, James Parks as the driver O.B., Kurt Russell as bounty hunter John Ruth also known as “The Hangman, »

Todd McCarthy on Tarantino's 'Hateful Eight': 'Samuel L. Jackson Would Have a Field Day With This'

5 hours ago | The Hollywood Reporter | See recent The Hollywood Reporter news »

Most writer-directors like to keep their scripts out of the public eye until their films come out. So did Quentin Tarantino, at least until his latest, a Western called The Hateful Eight, was notoriously posted online a few months ago, sparking a lawsuit and an initial peevish reaction by the author to abandon making the film altogether. Then Tarantino decided to go the other way and do something possibly unprecedented, to hold a star-studded public reading of the script prior to shooting the film, which he presently intends to do next winter. Most screenwriters would be lucky to

The lawyer for director Bryan Singer, who is accused by Michael Egan, III, of forcible sexual abuse of a minor, fired back at Egan’s counsel’s claim that witnesses saw Singer at 1999 sex parties in Hawaii, where some of the abuse is alleged to have taken place. “Any person who claims to be a witness to Bryan Singer being in Hawaii with Michael Egan is a bold face liar,” said Singer’s lawyer Marty Singer (no relation). “My client was never with Mr. Egan in Hawaii during the time period alleged or at any other time. New 'Fantastic Four' will be a more 'gritty' and 'realistic' movie than the original

6 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Anaheim - First thing's first. The new "Fantastic Four" movie is definitely happening. No delays, no recasting. Josh Trank's vision is going to come to fruition. That's the word from the movie's screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg who was on the Baton Rouge, La set two days ago and reveals that production begins in earnest in two weeks. Kinberg was at this year's WonderCon to speak primarily about 20th Century Fox's expected blockbuster "X-Men: Days of Future Past," but he also took a few minutes to talk about Marvel Comics' most famous family. He says the chance to create a "unique tone" is what excites him most about the reboot. "As Singer created with the original 'X-Men' movies, Christopher Nolan created with the 'Dark Knight' movies, Jon Favreau and Marvel created with the 'Iron Man' movies, all the best superhero franchises - Sam Raimi did it »

Schoonmaker also explained that she thought the film was worthy of being the sole subject of her talk. Don't expect the original 'X-Men' cast in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

7 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Anaheim - Simon Kinberg had an unexpected trip to WonderCon on Saturday.  The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" screenwriter and producer stepped in for director Bryan Singer who finds himself in the middle of a publicity nightmare surrounding abuse allegations that took place almost 14 years ago.  It's a rare moment in the spotlight for Kinberg who, in many ways, has become the key man on 20th Century Fox's superhero movies. Kinberg wrote the dreadful "X-Men: The Last Stand," but redeemed himself five years later as a producer on "X-Men: First Class" and is both the writer and producer of Fox's buzzworthy "Fantastic Four" reboot. Today, however, he's sitting down to talk about "Days of Future Past" and, happily, he hasn't succumbed to answering questions with just studio talking points (oh, there's time). The latest "X-Men" extravaganza is one of the most anticipated movies of the year and for a variety of reasons. »

Interview: John & Jessica talk 'Amazing Race: All-Stars'

7 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Well, at least things worked out better for Jessica Hoel and John Erck in their second run on "The Amazing Race." A little better, at least.  In their first season, John & Jessica won the season's opening Leg and earned an Express Pass. Then, just a couple episodes later, they were eliminated with the Express Pass still in their back pocket after refusing to play the powerful Pass in a challenge where they remained convinced there were teams behind them long after they'd fallen into last place. It was one of the more notorious pieces of self-immolation in "Amazing Race" history and that was probably what earned John & Jessica a second chance on "The Amazing Race: All-Stars." This second run lacked the highs of that season-opening Leg victory, but they also lasted deeper into the Race and, when they went out, they were theoretically able to point the blame away from themselves. »

Tribeca Docs on Government Spying: ‘What Was Illegal Under Nixon Is Legal Under Obama’

8 hours ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Government surveillance, abuses of power and the supression of dissent kicked into high gear after 9/11, one documentary argued at the Tribeca Film Festival on Saturday night. But the whistleblowers who exposed recent activities were hardly breaking new ground, because some of the same things were going on more than four decades ago, another Tribeca doc pointed out. Both “Silenced” and “1971” tackle issues that reverberate in light of Edward Snowden's recent disclosures of the extent of domestic spying, and the risks some citizens take to expose activity they feel subverts the Constitition. The two films made for bracing and frightening. »

Fox Cable Networks Group Exec Fired Over Malaysia Airlines Fundraising Email

Fox Cable Networks Group exec Darlene Lieblich Tipton was fired earlier this month after using her company email address to help raise money for relatives of passengers on the doomed Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Tipton’s dismissal came after she sent an email seeking support for a fundraising campaign to aid families of the 239 passengers and crew members on the plane that disappeared last month on what was supposed to be a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.

A Fox spokesman declined comment on the specifics of Tipton’s departure but confirmed she has left the company.

“The conduct and communications at issue were not authorized by Fox and were in violation of company policy. As soon as we became aware we took appropriate steps,” the spokesman said.

Tipton had been with Fox for at least a dozen years, most recently serving as VP of standards and practices for the cable networks group. »
