The story follows a little girl who leads a big, friendly giant and the Queen of England on a journey to stop the fiercer man-eating giants from gobbling children.

DreamWorks acquired rights in 2010, and Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on “E.T.,” will pen the script. Trove of Legendarily Terrible Atari Games Uncovered in New Mexico Desert

1 hour ago | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

One gamer's buried trash is another's buried treasure. Confirming one of the video game industry's most notorious urban legends, construction workers have found copies of the E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial Atari game buried in a landfill in the New Mexico desert. The E.T. game, manufactured for the Atari 2600, was so reviled for unplayability and general design, that Atari, cash-strapped and struggling to deal with a surfeit of merchandise, resorted to burying copies in a landfill in 1983. (Licensing the character's rights reportedly cost millions, dooming the game almost from the start.) But this story was never officially confirmed - until now. »

Beijing (AP) — Chinese authorities have ordered video streaming websites in the country to stop showing four popular American TV shows, including The Big Bang Theory and The Good Wife, representatives from two sites said Sunday. The move suggests government attention is intensifying on the online streaming industry, which is freer than state television and China's cinemas to show foreign productions and other content and has stretched the boundaries of what can be seen in the country. A spokeswoman for a leading online video site, Youku, said it had received notification on Saturday not to show sitcom The Big Bang

Pope Francis Declares Popes John Xxiii and John Paul II Saints

Pope Francis declared Popes John Xxiii and John Paul II saints before some 800,000 people on Sunday in an unprecedented ceremony made even more historic by the presence of emeritus Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square. Never before have a reigning pope and a retired pope celebrated Mass together in public, much less at an event honoring two of their most famous predecessors. Benedict's presence was a reflection of the balancing act that Francis envisioned when he decided to canonize John and John Paul together, showing the unity of the Catholic Church by honoring popes beloved by conservatives and progressives alike. »

Has life in the age of casual magic made moviegoers numb to the amazing?

9 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Certainly no one would accuse me of being shy about offering an opinion. There are times, though, where that opinion isn't welcomed by a reader, and that's normally when I'm writing up a news story and I can't resist a wee bit of cynicism. I know that any time there is news about "Alice In Wonderland 2," I am openly skeptical of the need for that film. I understand that the first one made a billion dollars, but I'm not sure I actually know anyone who enjoyed it. I recently wrote about that when they picked a release date for the film, and I got several angry e-mails from people who resented my attitude, claiming once again that I was being too rough on the movie. Taking a second look at what I firmly believe may be Tim Burton's worst film, I was struck by two things. First, it is a terrible movie, »

Adam Levine and Keira Knightley Close Tribeca Film Festival With ‘Begin Again’

9 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

On Saturday, the Tribeca Film Festival hosted its closing night selection of “Begin Again,” the musical valentine shot in New York directed by John Carney.

Adam Levine, who makes his big-screen debut, said he never took any acting classes. “I acted like an actor,” he said. “It was very meta.”

Levine, the lead singer of Maroon 5, said he’d been offered film roles before, but he had always turned them down. “I’d thought about it, but the things that had come my way had been less than desirable,” Levine said. “John Carney made me want to do it. I was a huge fan of what John had done with ‘Once.’”

Keira Knightley, who sings throughout the film, said she took only two music lessons. “I mean, yeah, I sing in the shower,” said Knightley, adding, “I’m not a singer. Sometimes you can be scared, and it’s going to be all right. »

Interview: Flight Time & Big Easy talk 'Amazing Race: All-Stars'

11 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

As I interview The Globetrotters, they're doing what they do best: Trotting the globe. Nate "Big Easy" Lofton and Herb "Flight Time" Lang were eliminated from "The Amazing Race" All-Stars" on last Sunday's episode. It was the third time they've been on "The Amazing Race" and the third time they've gone home without winning, which you'd think would sting for a pair of basketball players who, by nature of their professional affiliation, never lose.  Actually, you probably wouldn't think that if you've paid attention to Flight Time & Big Easy, who have earned the right to compete thrice on "Amazing Race" by virtue of their unflagging enthusiasm and their eagerness to entertain both viewers at home and every passer-by at every international location. Flight Time & Big Easy like to make people smile when they're on "The Amazing Race" and when they're not being followed by CBS cameras, they're usually still on the road making people smile. »
