Netflix Sets August 1st Premiere for Fourth (and Final) Season of 'The Killing'

8 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Netflix has announced that the final six episodes of "The Killing" will be available for streaming beginning on August 1st. Cancelled by AMC after just two seasons, Netflix negotiated the show's revival by teaming up with the cable network to bring it back for a third season in what Variety refers to as a "shared-window pact." Following the third season, AMC cancelled the show once again. This time, however, Netflix negotiated its own deal with Fox Television Studios for a fourth season. Veena Sud, who helmed "The Killing" when it first aired, has returned to the position of showrunner for its final season.

Seth Meyers to host 2014 Emmys

30 minutes ago | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Who will to host the Emmys this year? Why NBC’s newest late-night star, of course. Seth Meyers will host the 66th annual awards telecast this fall when it airs on NBC.

Seth’s expertise and ease in front of a live audience during his time at SNL, as well as his comedic brilliance both as a writer and in front of the camera on SNL and Late Night, makes him the perfect choice to host the Emmys,” said Paul Telegdy, president, late night, NBC Entertainment.

In addition, veteran TV producer Don Mischer was announced Thursday as executive producer of the Emmy telecast. »

ABC's 'Black Box': The craziest, least-crazy show on TV

37 minutes ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Oh boy. Guys, I do not know what to do with Black Box, ABC’s new medical drama. (Yes, the show is about neither airplanes nor experimental theater; yes, its protagonist’s last name is “Black”; yes, this is a titling convention that must be stopped immediately.)

When its logical left brain is in control, Black Box is an utterly conventional, thoroughly dull entry in the over-saturated “Insufferable Genius” genre. But when the show’s crazy right brain takes over, it’s a jaw-dropping, over-the-top campfest with true potential to fill the Smash-sized hole in your (read: my) heart.

Seth Meyers To Host The 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards

42 minutes ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Today could not have gone much better for Seth Meyers. After being named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in the morning, the Late Night host has been set as host of this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards on NBC. The network submitted the late-night host to the TV Academy’s Board of Governors, which I’ve learned just voted to approve him. This marks Meyers’ debut as Emmy host; he previously emceed the 2010 and 2011 Espy Awards and the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. His selection continues the tradition of the current host of Late Night to emcee the Primetime Emmys whenever they air on NBC. Four years ago, it was Meyers’ predecessor Jimmy Fallon, and the two previous times it was Fallon’s predecessor Conan O’Brien. In fact, Fallon’s very well-received 2010 Emmy-hosting stint a year and a half into his late-night tenure is credited with giving »

Seth Meyers to Host 2014 Emmy Awards

43 minutes ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Seth Meyers has been tapped to host NBC’s telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards on Aug. 25.

NBC and the Television Academy have also set kudocast vet Don Mischer as exec producer of the live broadcast originating from downtown L.A.‘s Nokia Theatre.

There was little doubt that the host of this year’s Emmycast would come from NBC’s latenight ranks, given all the changes that NBC implemented this year.

Peacock execs likely concluded that Meyers would get more of a boost from the Emmycast showcase than Fallon, who has been on a strong ratings roll since he took the helm of “The Tonight Show” from Jay Leno in February.

Fallon benefited from the Emmy spotlight when he hosted in 2010, about 18 months after he replaced Conan O’Brien on “Late Night.”

Meyers’ long run at “Saturday Night Live” makes him perfectly suited for awards-show duty. He also hosted »

2 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

For the first time, the contestants got to sing two solo songs Wednesday night, one country and one rock ‘n roll. With too many guitars and not enough personality, the final six continued to make similar mistakes from week’s past. And now that mistake may prove fatal as one more singer was unplugged for good.

Warning! Spoilers ahead about tonight’s elimination!

C.J. Harris (far right) is the next Idol saying goodbye. Jessica Meuse and Harris, both natives of Alabama were the bottom two.

That leaves Caleb, Jena, Sam, Alex and Jessica in the top 5. Next week’s theme »

2 hours ago | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

[Spoiler Alert: Do not read this story until you have watched tonight's season finale of Parks and Recreation.]

So… that happened. Or will happen three years from now.

Parks and Recreation concluded its sixth season in grand style, with a monster concert that unified two towns, a final decision from Leslie on the National Parks Service job… but with a twist (she twisted Grant’s arm into letting her move the regional office to Pawnee), and a shocking jump three years into the future, where we saw Jon Hamm pop up as the world’s worst National Parks employee (Yes, worse than Jerry. Er, Larry. Um, Terry) and those not-yet-born triplets were already little people.

NBCU Hit With ‘Comedy Playground’ Trademark Suit

2 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The Peacock’s search for new comedy talent might have to find itself a new name. NBCUniversal was hit with a trademark infringement compliant (read it here) this week by a L.A. group trains people in the art of the funny under the name Comedy Playground. Earlier this month, NBC’s Entertainment President Jennifer Salke announced the national NBC Comedy Playground campaign that would offer up-and-coming comedy writers a chance to pitch ideas to the network. The two winners would get a half-hour show each on NBC for next summer. Not so fast, says the other Comedy Playground in its suit filed April 23 in federal court. “The harm caused by NBC’s actions to Comedy Playground and its reputation is devastating and irreversible,” says the 13-page filing of the network’s contest set to start May 1. “Even though NBC’s contest has not yet formally begun, Comedy Playground has »

SAG-aftra Working On Wide-Ranging Report About Casting Diversity

3 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

SAG-aftra is working on what will be the first truly comprehensive picture of the employment landscape for women and minority actors and hopes to release it within a year. SAG used to release the reports annually, then in 2004 it started issuing them every other year. After 2009, it stopped releasing the reports altogether. The problem was that AFTRA never released comprehensive casting reports on actors employed under its jurisdiction – which included daytime soaps and some primetime and basic cable shows, and new pilots – so the employment picture SAG presented was never really complete. And in the years leading up to their 2012 merger, AFTRA launched a concerted campaign to sign more pilots and cable shows to its contract by offering more favorable terms than SAG’s – a move that sparked a bitter feud between the two unions.
