Elliott strikes for season-opening win

Melbourne’s Crystal Elliott won the Future Collegiate Bowler’s Tour season opener in Winter Park.

The Johnson Middle School student dominated the qualifying and semifinals, earning her a No. 2 seed in the step-ladder finals.

Elliott defeated Marissa Roberts 159-145 in game three and defeated Krystina Nealon 158-152 in game four, en route to her first victory on the Future Collegiate Bowlers Tour.

In addition to the championship trophy, Elliott was awarded a $400 scholarship award for her first place finish.

The Future Collegiate Bowlers Tour is a youth and junior bowling circuit currently centralized in central Florida. Aside from guaranteed scholarship funding in each event, the tour provides junior bowlers an atmosphere where they will be able to develop their skills, coupled with the opportunity to earn higher scholarship payouts.

Satellite golfer wins tour event

Satellite Beach’s Nick Lindhein won the Florida Professional Golf Tour’s Daytona Beach Open on Sunday after finishing the two-round event with a 13-under par, 131 after rounds of 63 and 68 at the par-72 Daytona Beach Golf Club.

The win, from which Lindhein won $2,500, was his sixth on tour and his third in the Florida Professional Golf Tour’s season, which concluded for the year with this event.

Lindhein’s third win ties him with Drew Preston of Grand Rapids, MI for most wins on tour this season.

Kelsey's claims soccer title

Kelsey’s of Cape Canaveraal won the Florida East Coast Soccer League men’s open title recently.

Kelsey’s won the title with a 5-1 victory over Brevard Fire March 23.

Tom Kennedy broke a 1-1 tie when he scored on a cross from Sam Jenkins. Nick Robinson, Eddie Enders, Allesandro Zuniga and Scott Suttles also scored for Kelsey’s in the win.

Brevard Fire’s lone goal came from Brandon Richards.

Iacobelli to play in Symetra event

Viera’s Daniela Iacobelli will tee off today in the sixth annual Florida’s Natural Charity Classic in Lake Wales.

The Charity Classic is a Symetra Tour event as Iacobelli tries to get back onto the LPGA Tour. The field of 144 professionals will aim for their share of the $125,000 purse, the fourth largest on Tour this season. The winner will take home $18,750 and take a significant step towards an LPGA Tour card for the 2015 season.

Space Coast Amateur set

The ninth annual Space Coast Amateur Championship will be held at Duran Golf Club’s championship golf course on April 5-6.

Golfers will play 36 holes in both gross and net divisions and must have an established USGA handicap attested by their PGA pro.

The entry fee is $125 and includes two rounds of golf, practice balls, lunch and prizes.

Registration and payment must be received by April 3.

The field is limited to the first 100 paid entrants.

Businessman's golf on Thursdays

Spessard Holland Golf Course is hosting a Thursday evening businessman’s league.

The league will begin April 3 at 5:30 p.m. and goes through September. The league is open to men and women and is a two-person team event.

The league costs $20 with a $20 per night fee, which includes golf, cart, food and prizes.

Night golf league at Savannahs

The Savannahs Golf Course is hosting a Wednesday open league beginning April 2.

Tee times are 4 p.m. and after. It is open to men and women and is a two-person team event.

The league fee is $25 per player, and $18 per player nightly. Closest to the pins are awarded each evening. Call 321-455-1375 for information.

Youth basketball registrations

The City of Melbourne is hosting registration for its youth basketball league.

The registration will be held at the Eau Gallie Civic Center from 10 a.m. to noon on April 5. The cost is $38 for Melbourne residents and $45 for residents outside the city.
