11 April 2014 10:34 PM, PDT

President George H.W. Bush has a new favorite TV show. The cast of AMC's new hit "Turn" took the stage of the TV Academy Friday night in North Hollywood to discuss everything from the show's unlikely fanbase -- including a former Potus -- to the incredibly cold conditions filming on location in Virginia during last year's snow storms. Moderated by Stacey Wilson (The Hollywood Reporter), cast members in attendance included Jamie Bell, Heather Lind, Seth Numrich, Burn Gorman and Jj Feild. Listen to the entire audio podcast below. -Break- As producers Barry Josephson and Craig Silverstein explain, their original pitch to AMC was, "It's 'The Departed' set in the Revolutionary War." 'Breaking Bad' cast reunites at TV Academy: Hear their spin-off ideas

10 April 2014 10:52 PM, PDT

If parting is such sweet sorrow, the cast of "Breaking Bad" isn't very sorrowful. Less than seven months after the Emmy-winning series cooked its last batch of blue meth, many of the show's long-running cast members -- Aaron Paul, Rj Mitte, Dean Norris, Betsy Brandt and Bob Odenkirk -- gathered together Thursday night at the TV Academy in North Hollywood along with creator Vince Gilligan. (Alas, Bryan Cranston and Anna Gunn were too busy working on other projects to attend the "Breaking Bad" reunion.) Moderated by "Talking Bad" host Chris Hardwick, the cast recalled their greatest moments from the show and joked about other possible spin-off ideas in addition to the upcoming Odenkirk-centric spin-off on AMC titled "Better Call Saul." News Nuggets: Why Stephen Colbert is the 'perfect' choice to replace David Letterman

10 April 2014 12:09 PM, PDT

Tim Goodman declares that Stephen Colbert is the "perfect" choice to replace David Letterman as host of "Late Show" on CBS. He says that "rarely has there been a better match of job opening and candidate." Even though Colbert has already said he will not bring along his conservative character from "The Colbert Report," do not worry that the new network will "hire him and then shackle him." He adds that Colbert is "insatiable about pop culture, politics, music -- pretty much anything in the zeitgiest" and that his presence and approach will automatically bring in a more youthful audience. The new host signed a five-year deal with CBS and will take over the show sometime in 2015. Carrie Underwood competing in mini/movie, 'Sound of Music' in special class at Emmys

10 April 2014 8:55 AM, PDT

On the ballot released this June, the production will be listed as a Special Class Program while the performers will be over in the movie/miniseries categories. -Break- The three-hour live version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical aired last Dec. 5 on NBC. 'Survivor: Cagayan' smackdown: Kass McQuillen vs. Morgan McLeod

10 April 2014 4:14 AM, PDT

Kass McQuillen continued to cause havoc on "Survivor: Cagayan" this week as she declared herself a free agent. Last week, she had abandoned her alliance with the Brains tribe and defended that betrayal. She continued to try to manipulate various players, with only limited success. Tasked with keeping an eye on Spencer Bledsoe, she failed to spot him hiding the newly discovered immunity idol. And she was the first to falter in the individual immunity challenge.  -Break- Perhaps bolstered by his success at finding the immunity idol, Bledsoe also succeeded in winning immunity for himself in the challenge, by outlasting Tasha Fox on the balance beam.  At tribal council, Fox found herself in the sights of the loose alliance led by Woo Hwang, who tagged her as the fallback if their primary target -- Morgan McLeod -- was given the immunity idol.  'American Idol' mystery: Is Jessica Meuse too boring to win? »

'American Idol' predictions: Is C.J. Harris 'Free Fallin' out of competition?

9 April 2014 7:19 PM, PDT

Memo to "American Idol" singer C.J. Harris: When you're constantly showing up in America's bottom three and in danger of elimination, it's probably not the best idea to sing something called "Free Fallin." 'Dancing with the Stars' showdown: Charlie White vs. judges

9 April 2014 10:22 AM, PDT

Are the "Dancing With the Stars" judges right about Olympic gold medalist Charlie White's controversial routines, or are they holding him to an unfairly high standard? -Break- 'DWTS' recap: Leaderboard shake-up in switch-up week On Monday night, Carrie Ann Inaba and Len Goodman were displeased that his rumba with switched-up partner Peta Murgatroyd wasn't traditional enough. Inaba gave them a 7 and Goodman gave them an 8, while Bruno Tonioli and guest judge Julianne Hough gave him 9s. Gold Derby Emmy Mvp: Can Amy Schumer break into male-dominated variety field?

9 April 2014 9:46 AM, PDT

Tuesday night's "Inside Amy Schumer," the second episode of the sketch comedy's second season, nailed military rape culture, sexual double standards, and female body-consciousness within just the first 10 minutes. The raunchy Comedy Central breakout is near the front of the pack of new variety programs, but the sly feminist faces one of TV's biggest gender disparities: the Emmys' glass ceiling for variety TV. -Break- "Tracey Takes On" was the last female-led program to win Best Variety Series. That was way back in 1997 – 17 years ago. It was also the last such series to be nominated. Since 2000, men have had a stranglehold on Best Variety Series, with comics like soon-to-retire David Letterman, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, and Stephen Colbert taking most of the accolades. 'American Idol' mystery: Is Jessica Meuse too boring to win?

9 April 2014 12:44 AM, PDT

On "American Idol" this season, Jessica Meuse is a complete mystery. She's one of this season's quieter contestants, but did you know that she's one of only three singers (along with Caleb Johnson and Alex Preston) to never appear in America's bottom three? Such an impressive feat would normally make Jessica a frontrunner to win the season. However, this 23-year-old native of Slapout, Al doesn't have much of a vocal fanbase compared to the other singers, particularly when it comes to our racetrack odds. Is she too boring to win? -Break- Jessica frequently comes in last (as she does this week) on our leaderboards for who's out front to win Season 13. The highest she ever ranked was sixth, way back in Top 10 Week. If Jessica does have a mystery fanbase that's loyal enough to keep her out of the dreaded bottom three each week, perhaps everyone is underestimating her ultimate chances. »
