Rio 2 (2014)- Animation | Adventure | Comedy | Family
It's a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids after they're hurtled Rio de Janeiro to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all: his father-in-law.

The Buzz: Director Carlos Saldanha, distributor Twentieth Century Fox, and animation house Blue Sky Studios are looking beyond the slightly creaky Ice Age franchise and clearly this sequel represents their intention of developing a second global phenomenon. The first Brazilian adventure was successful in the U.S. but the real measure of its appeal lay elsewhere and given the overseas popularity of the most recent Ice Age ($715 million vs. $160 million in the States) we hope to see an increasingly diverse cast sign up for the third chapter.
Draft Day (2014)- Drama | Sport
At the NFL Draft, general manager Sonny Weaver has the opportunity to rebuild his team when he trades for the number one pick. He must decide what he's willing to sacrifice on a life-changing day for a few hundred young men with NFL dreams.
Director:Ivan Reitman |

The Buzz: As an 8-episode HBO mini-series, I'm all over this and I see a ticker-tape parade complete with Emmy and Golden Globes nominations for Ivan Reitman and his cast. As a film? A potential sleeper hit a la Reitman's Dave if everyone is lucky. The sports drama that is truly buzzing is Million Dollar Arm.
Oculus (2013)- Horror
A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.

The Buzz: We're pretty sure that not even Nicolas Cage has as many movies coming out this year as emerging star Brenton Thwaites, who here plays the tormented brother to Karen Gillan (who will next be seen as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy). On deck for Thwaites after this cheapie horror flick - which hopefully has a throwback appeal to it - is Maleficent followed by Sundance phenom The Signal and young-adult bait The Giver.
Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) - [Limited]- Drama | Horror | Romance
A depressed musician reunites with his lover, though their romance - which has already endured several centuries - is disrupted by the arrival of uncontrollable younger sister.
Director:Jim Jarmusch |

The Buzz: That Tom Hiddleston is hot enough to cause Tilda Swinton to fly from Tangiers to Detroit is one of many truths to be found in this music-soaked vampire fantasy from Jim Jarmusch, who is flirting with the mainstream for the first time since 2005's Broken Flowers.
Joe (2013) - [Limited]- Drama
An ex-con, who is the unlikeliest of role models, meets a 15-year-old boy and is faced with the choice of redemption or ruin.
Director:David Gordon Green |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: As filmmaker David Gordon Green continues to steep in his independent-film roots by taking a break from his recent string of stoner comedies (he was responsible for Pineapple Express, Your Highness, and The Sitter), Nicolas Cage is enjoying one-off McConaughey -like praise for his starring role here. Quietly amassing a series of remarkable roles is his co-star, Tye Sheridan.
Hateship Loveship (2013) - [Limited]Drama
A wild teenage girl orchestrates a romance between her nanny and her father, who is a recovering addict.
Director:Liza Johnson |
|

The Buzz: Kristen Wiig's unique form of comedy is an intriguing match with Nobel Prize winner Alice Munro's short story, which was adapted by Mark Poirier (Smart People, Goats) for director Liza Johnson's follow up to The Return.
Dancing in Jaffa (2013) - [Limited]- Documentary
Renowned ball-room dancer Pierre Dulaine takes his program, Dancing Classrooms, back to his city of birth, Jaffa, to teach Jewish and Palestinian Israelis to dance and compete together.
Director:Hilla Medalia |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Digging into the history of this documentary, we found an intriguing perspective from director Hilla Medalia, who was initially hesitant about making the project because of perceived impossibility of creating lasting change in Israel. Medalia herself had to be pulled into Pierre's program, teaching methods, and spirit. Also, any project that brings together Morgan Spurlock and La Toya Jackson as executive producers ought to raise anyone's curiosity factor.
The Railway Man (2013) - [Limited]- Biography | Drama
A former British Army officer who was tormented as a prisoner of war at a Japanese labor camp during World War II discover that the man responsible for much of his treatment is still alive and sets out to confront him.
Director:Jonathan Teplitzky |

The Buzz: Considered at one time to be an awards contender, this true story finds itself part of The Weinstein Company's 2014 spring cleaning, as the mini-major studio has released a handful of films over the past few weeks.
Cuban Fury (2014) - [Limited]- Comedy
Beneath Bruce Garrett's under-confident, overweight exterior, the passionate heart of a salsa king lies dormant. Now, one woman is about to reignite his Latin fire.
Director:James Griffiths |

The Buzz: Chris O'Dowd gets the Simon Pegg role in Nick Frost's first solo outing which might catch on if there's anything in it for older audiences. We can't shake the thought that this is the kind of film Frost might have made early on in his career.
Hank and Asha (2013) - [Limited]- Comedy | Romance
An Indian student in Prague and a lonely New Yorker correspond online through video letters. A voyeuristic love story about aching for human connection in a hyper-connected world.
Director:James E. Duff |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Director James Duff's first film won an audience award at Slamdance last year and earned several more festival wins en route to its theatrical release, which means we should see more from him as well as Andrew Pastides and Mahira Kakkar - the titular Hank and Asha.
