“Animal Kingdom” director David Michod will write and direct “The Operators,” with Brad Pitt attached to star. Plan B, New Regency and RatPac Entertainment will co-finance and produce.
“The Operators” is based on Michael Hastings’ 2011 best-seller about the rise and fall of General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan. The book serves as a behind-the-scenes portrait of the country’s military commanders, their high-stake maneuvers and a political firestorm that shook the United States after Hastings’ article on his 2010 trip to Afghanistan ran in Rolling Stone and lead to McChrystal’s firing after his staff was revealed to bashing the Obama administration and partying on the battlefield.
Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will also produce the film through Pitt’s Plan B shingle.
New Regency and Plan B recently produced “12 Years a Slave,” and have a multi-year pact to co-finance films together through Brett Ratner’s RatPac. »
