Asa, Femi Kuti Perform At Montreux Jazz Festival
By Osagie Alonge One of Nigeria’s biggest musical exports Asa has joined the list of music greats as the singer performed at the 44th edition of the world-famous Montreux Jazz Festival. The festival which was held from July 1 to July 16, 2001 in Switzerland saw Asa (who was one of the youngest performers this year) perform alongside Grammy award-winning jazz bassist and singer Esperanza Spalding and others. The 29-year-old also shared the stage with prominent rock act Seal. Also at the festival was Afrobeat maestro Femi Kuti who performed at the Miles Davies Hall. Femi is currently on tour in Europe. Legends such as Quincy Jones, James Brown, Nina Simone, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Wu Tang Clan and Nigerian legend Fela Kuti have all performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Since renowned Swiss Claude Nobs founded the event, it has become an annual gathering place for lovers of jazz from all over the world.
