KSA and Ebenezer Obey in One Night Stand

Just a few weeks after the amazing live concert by 2face Idibia at the New Expo Hall of Eko Hotels in Lagos, we’re happy to inform you that two of Africa’s finest musicians King Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi are warming up to deliver a joint concert that’ll shake the venue and the rest of Lagos to their foundations.

The gig is tagged ‘one night stand’ because it’s the first time many fans would be seeing both Juju stars perform together; on the same stage, collaborating and engaging each other in joint sets. And it’s not likely there’ll be a repeat anytime soon.

Unlike what many would expect, the organisers say this is not a competition to finally determine who’s hot and who’s not between the two veterans. ‘This is all about fun; about celebrating both legends and making the fans happy. It is not a popularity or superiority contest’ a member of the planning team tells NET.

The show will hold on Friday October 22 at the new Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos.

KSA and Obey, two of Nigeria’s most decorated musicians and band leaders, have long been off the local concert setting. While KSA continues to perform at private parties across the world, also touring occasionally, Obey, now a Christian evangelist, had since dropped the Juju genre, to focus on his ministry. Sources say Obey had to get the blessings of the board of his church ‘Decross’ before accepting to be part of the concert.

The organisers say it took years to put together ‘One Night Stand’. And the fans are hoping it’ll be one of the most memorable nights this year.

‘The stakes are high, and we know the expectations’, a source on the concert team tells us. ‘But we’re certain Lagos will not forget this one night stand in a hurry’.

The concert will be produced by respected veteran Laolu Akins – the producer-musician mostly remember by today’s generation as the gentleman that produced Shina Peters’ monster album ‘Ace’. Akins is familiar with sounds of Obey and KSA and indeed, most of the major stars of the 80s and 90s, and the organisers – Grandfaaji Concepts - believe he’ll give the right direction the the event.
