Poet Laureate, Natasha Trethewey
Librarian of Congress James H. Billington has appointed Natasha Trethewey to serve a second term as U.S. Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry. She will follow previous multiyear laureates—such as Kay Ryan, Ted Kooser, and Billy Collins—and undertake a signature project: a regular feature on the PBS NewsHour Poetry Series.

Mary Szybist Wins National Book Award
Congratulations to Mary Szybist, who has been awarded this year's National Book Award in poetry for her second book Incarnadine: Poems. Szybist was chosen in 2009 by Poet Laureate Kay Ryan as a co-recipient of the 12th annual Witter Bynner Fellowship.

This new series is part of the Center’s 75th Anniversary celebration. Through two features, “Poetry of American Identity” and “Poetry of American History,” leaders in the literary field explore how poetry connects to the following themes: immigration and migration, work and industry, social change, and peace and war.
