Check Out the Scary Blood Glacier Trailer!

“A Slice of Horror Reminiscent of John Carpenter’s The Thing!”, screams the poster for Blood Glacier. No kidding! This looks good though and I really like the title (much better than the snooze original title The Station).

Blood Glacier opens in Select Theaters and Available on Video on Demand May 2nd

Four technicians and scientists at an alpine research station discover a glacier of blood high in the mountains. Testing the red liquid oozing from the ice, they discover a new alien organism with the astonishing capability of transforming the local wildlife into horrific hybrids and monster mutations. With the Minister of the Environment hiking to the station for an official visit, many frightening questions must be answered if the confrontational team are to survive and cope with the giant wood lice, the beetle-foxes, crossbred flying predators and much, much worse…

New Photos From Wally Pfister’s Transcendence – Stars Johnny Depp

Set in a not-too-distant future, Transcendence explores the very real possibility that humans—in our attempts to create a better, more efficient, more self-sustaining world through technology—can go too far. For emotions are not always positive: doesn’t a machine that has the capacity for kindness also have the capacity for menace?

Wally Pfister, a renowned cinematographer making his feature directorial debut on the film, states, “I was struck by the power and the weight of the ideas in this story, which I think are very much on people’s minds right now.”

Transcendence” proposes that we can achieve what’s been called singularity. Pfister comments, “As we define it for the film, singularity is basically the uploading of the human brain into a super computer: the duplication of every synapse, every neuron…every bit of activity in the brain goes into a machine, which then becomes sentient.”

The Stars Come Out For The Winter Soldier Red Carpet Event At Mx Movies

Thunderstorms and tornado warnings were no match for the heroes and their rabid fans who came out to the Mx Movie Theater Thursday night. To kick off this weekend’s Wizard World convention held at America’s Center in downtown St. Louis, a red-carpet event was held for Marvel’s next superhero blockbuster – Captain America: The Winter Soldier. And it wouldn’t be a red carpet without a big star.

Fans lined-up to take photos of former Hulk actor Lou Ferrigno. For five seasons, Ferrigno was mean and green as the title character in The Incredible Hulk. Even though the show aired from 1978 -1982 on CBS, the show and its star continue to garner new fans both young and old year after year as the popularity of comic-books exponentially soar. Ferrigno posed for photos and even struck a menacing iconic pose or two. To show that he wasn’t just a muscular brute, »

Captain America: The Winter Soldier – The Review

3 April 2014 9:30 PM, PDT

Six years don’t seem like that long a stretch of a time, but it’s long enough to create a universe. I should clarify, I mean a cinematic universe. You see, that’s just what they’ve done at Marvel Studios. And what a wondrous place it is! And movie-goers are now able to visit there more than once a year. Hard to believe, but it was back in 2008 that the famed comic book company (lovingly named “The House of Ideas” by Stan Lee himself almost fifty years ago) decided that they should have a more active role in bringing their characters to the silver screen. Media pundits scoffed since several of their biggest properties, namely Spider-Man and the X-Men, were locked down in movie deals with Sony and Fox. But Marvel (with Paramount) initiated their big screen dreams with Iron Man, and they’ve not looked back. That »

Italian Film Festival USA of St. Louis Kicks Off This Weekend

2 April 2014 8:01 AM, PDT

Which should be exciting news for those unaware we even had an annual Italian Film Festival here in St. Louis. We do, and it’s been going on for ten years now. It’s not well-promoted in general but it must be in the local Italian community because I’ve attended on the past and they always draw huge crowds (the free admission probably doesn’t hurt).

St. Louisans can enjoy the local premiere of eleven recent Italian films at this year’s Italian Film Festival USA of St. Louis. The films are shown in their original language with English subtitles at 3 venues on the campus of Washington University: Lab Sciences 300, Brown Hall and Steinberg Auditorium.

The Retrieval – The Review

1 April 2014 6:36 PM, PDT

It’s unusual to experience both a deep sadness and feel uplifted at the same time, but The Retrieval manages to accomplish this flawlessly. There is no shortage of well-made films to make us happy and inspired, there is even a great selection of stellar films that leave us feeling depressed and miserable, but how many films have you seen that actually, in some strange way, leave you suspended in an emotional juxtaposition between the two extremes?

Written, directed and produced by Chris Eska, this gem of last year’s SXSW film festival (2013) stands as a beacon of powerful storytelling shining brightly through the dark veil of history from which it is born. The Retrieval takes place in 1864 in the midst of the Unites States Civil War. This is the story of Will, a 13-year old boy left behind by his father to be exploited by Marcus (Keston John). Marcus works as a bounty hunter, »
