LCD Soundsystem's Final Show to Be Subject of Interactive Exhibition
Featuring video, audio, and photos you can take home with you
By Jeremy Gordon on April 3, 2014 at 02:56 p.m.
From April 7 to May 7, Rough Trade NYC will host "LCD Soundsystem: The Long Goodbye", an interactive gallery exhibition that focuses on LCD Soundsystem's Madison Square Garden farewell concert in April 2011.
It's in celebration of The Long Goodbye: LCD Soundsystem Live at Madison Square Garden, the proper release of the audio from that final show. On Record Store Day (April 19), it'll be released in a 5xLP vinyl box set. After that, it'll be given a digital/vinyl wide release on May 20 in the U.S. via Warner Bros and May 19 in the UK via Parlophone.
The exhibit will showcase exclusive video, advance pressings of the album's five vinyl LPs, and an assortment of prints taken by photographer Ruvan Wijesooriya that will be available for the taking. It will run through May 7.
"The joy of having a record shop is being able to celebrate music as an art form, and over the last decade there have been few artists who've evolved music more as art form than LCD Soundsystem," Rough Trade co-owner Stephen Godfroy said in a press release. "Hosting this retrospective experience is therefore an incredibly synergistic and humbling moment for us, one we're incredibly excited to share."

Paper Trail: Records Ruin the Landscape
Author David Grubbs talks about his new book, which explores the disdain many 1960s experimental musicians had for recorded music due to its inherent limiting qualities, and compares that mindset to today's era of infinite streaming.
