Jack White to Record and Release "World's Fastest Release Record" in Single Day
A live rendition of the title track from the upcoming Lazaretto
By Jeremy Gordon on April 3, 2014 at 12:52 p.m.
Jack White is no stranger to attempted record breaking, and he's once again shooting for the moon. This time, it's by recording what he's calling the "World's Fastest Released Record." On Record Store Day (April 19) at his Third Man Records in Nashville, he'll record a direct-to-acetate live version of the title track from his upcoming LP, Lazaretto. After that, the masters will be rushed to United Record Pressing, who will begin pressing 45s while making sleeves out of pictures taken at the performance. Then, the finished records will be taken back to Third Man to be sold to the waiting masses, within hours of being recorded.
"As long as there are fans in line waiting to buy the single, United will continue to press and deliver them to Third Man to sell. Even if it takes all day," a press release says. More info here.
After White's performance, Whirlwind Heat will play their first show since 2006, in support of Third Man's Record Store Day reissue of their album Do Rabbits Wonder?
Lazaretto is out on June 10. Listen to "High Ball Stepper" below:

Paper Trail: Records Ruin the Landscape
Author David Grubbs talks about his new book, which explores the disdain many 1960s experimental musicians had for recorded music due to its inherent limiting qualities, and compares that mindset to today's era of infinite streaming.
