'Noah' Opens to $15.2 Million, 'Sabotage' Bombs on Friday

16 hours ago | Box Office Mojo | See recent BoxOfficeMojo.com news »

Noah set sail with a solid $15.2 million on Friday, while Sabotage was the latest Arnold Schwarzenegger vehicle to blow up.Noah's $15.2 million debut is a bit up from Russell Crowe's Robin Hood ($13 million), and is also noticeably higher than February's Son of God ($9.5 million). Still, its miles away from disaster movies 2012 and The Day After Tomorrow, both of which opened over $23 million. The movie received a poor "C" CinemaScore, which isn't surprising given some of the unexpected fantasy elements in the movie. Assuming that negative word-of-mouth doesn't take effect this weekend, Noah should wind up with around $40 million for the three-day frame. In its second weekend, Divergent fell 64 percent to an estimated $8.1 million. In comparison, The Hunger Games dropped 72 percent at the same point. To date, the young-adult adaptation has already earned $76.9 million.Muppets Most Wanted took third place with an estimated $2.6 million (down 44 percent). Through eight days, »

If the hot-selling album remains atop the list -- which will be revealed on Wednesday, April 2 -- it will become the longest-running No. 1 album since 2012, when Adele's 21 spent its 24th (and final) week at No. 1, on the chart dated June 23. Louis Ck on ‘SNL': ‘Black Jeopardy,’ Obamacare Snoozer Spoof and ‘Dyke & Fats’

1 hour ago | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Louis Ck has no problem playing up his strengths. So it came as no surprise when the second-time “Saturday Night Live” host drew big laughs with an eight-minute barrage of jokes  on everything from God and heaven to domestic abuse and hunger during the show's opening monologue. “I don't have third-world hunger. I have first-world hunger,” Ck explained with signature drollness. “I would like a doughnut.” See video: Louis Ck, Kenan Thompson Head to 30 Rock Bathroom to Smoke Pot in ‘SNL’ Promos  Ck then kept the laughs and the momentum going when he appeared in a brilliantly irreverent sketch called “Black Jeopardy. »

Interview: Alexis Maxwell talks 'Survivor: Cagayan'

2 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Like so many "Survivor" decisions, Wednesday (March 26) night's "Survivor: Cagayan" vote came down to trust. With a Merge coming, the remaining trio of Brains had to decide who they could trust not to flip.  Would they trust Sarah, who might reunite with the majority of her Brawn tribe? Would they trust Jeremiah, who may or may not have gotten a clue to an Immunity Idol and may or may not have lied about it? Or would they trust Alexis, who professed loyalty, but had two chums -- Lj and Jefra -- remaining on the other tribe? In the end, the Brains didn't really consider targeting Sarah and they opted to trust Jeremiah, even while not quite believing him, leaving Alexis blindsided and crying. Although she was placed on the Beauty tribe for the purposes of this "Survivor" season, Alexis Maxwell is a student at Northwestern, which isn't too shabby, and »

Emmy slugfest: Can 'True Detective' take down 'Breaking Bad' and 'House of Cards'? (video)

3 hours ago | Gold Derby | See recent Gold Derby news »

How will "True Detective" fare at the Emmys now that sneaky HBO moved it over to the race for Best Drama Series? Can it take down reigning champ "Breaking Bad" and overdue titan "House of Cards"? "Orange is the New Black" just scooted out of that category to try and snag the last laugh in the Comedy Series race. Can it win? Or will it bow to "Modern Family," which is now angling for its fifth victory in a row. If it prevails again, it will tie the series record held by "Frasier," but it faces serious competition from Fox's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and HBO's "Veep" and newcomer "Silicon Valley." I rounded up some of our editorial team members to size up these hot Emmy contests: Daniel Montgomery, Rob Licuria, Matt Noble, Charles Bright and Riley Chow. Morgan Freeman Leaps for Conservation at ‘Island of Lemurs: Madagascar’ Premiere

3 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Last time Drew Fellman and David Douglas teamed with Morgan Freeman in 2011, they had the Oscar-winning actor narrate “Born to Be Wild,” their IMAX 3D documentary about orphaned animals. So it was only natural when Fellman returned as writer-director for another documentary about wildlife in peril, “Island of Lemurs: Madagascar,” they brought back both Freeman and Douglas, who stepped in as director after serving as director of photography on “Wild.”

“Once again, it’s a story about courageous individuals engaged in acts of heroism to save some magnificent creatures,” said Freeman at Warner Bros.’ world premiere for “Lemurs” Saturday afternoon at Los Angeles’ California Science Center. “It made sense to turn to this same group of people to tell this kind of story.”

This time the hero of the story is primatologist Patricia Wright, who fights to protect the fragile ecosystem of the lemurs, who have been around since the time of the dinosaurs. »

Interview: Margie & Luke talk 'Amazing Race: All-Stars'

4 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

On Sunday (March 23) night, Margie & Luke had one of those rough "Amazing Race" Legs that happen every couple seasons. They started near the back of the pack and after an unfortunate flight situation they were in dead last as they reached Sri Lanka, many hours behind the other teams. Even though Brendon & Rachel faced a SpeedBump in the Leg, Team "Big Brother" made a successful travel gamble and pulled even with the other teams. Margie & Luke never got close enough to even see another team at a challenge, much less stick around. That actually made for a relaxed Leg for the mother/son team, who were in their third tour of "Amazing Race" duty. They needed it after a rough last Leg in Kuala Lumpur, where a bartending Detour frustrating Luke, who couldn't attempt the alternative DJing Detour because he's deaf.  In this week's exit interview, Luke & Margie talk about »

'SNL' Recap: Louis C.K. Plays 'Black Jeopardy!' (Video)

[Note: We'll post videos as soon as they are made available online.] There was no Louie version of Abraham Lincoln this time, but host Louis C.K.'s fingerprints were all over this week's Saturday Night Live. C.K.'s brand of self-deprecation verging on self-loathing came through in multiple sketches. Like during his November 2012 hosting debut, C.K. used his opening monologue to deliver some stand-up. He mocked Americans who claimed they were starving after going without food for few hours, noting you don't hear emaciated African children saying " 'I am literally starving

Recap: 'Saturday Night Live' – Louis C.K. and Sam Smith

5 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

There have only been five new installments of “Saturday Night Live” this calendar year, so you’ll be forgiven if the pace of the season as a whole has seemed somewhat off. Throw in the fact that Seth Meyers left between one of the two lengthy breaks in the past three months, and you have a downright disjointed season. But starting tonight, “SNL” airs three new episodes in a row. Anna Kendrick and Seth Rogan will have their respective chances to shine in upcoming weeks, but tonight, it’s time for Louis C.K. to host for a second time. His first hosting gig back in the Fall of 2012 was a mixed bag, but did offer up some classic stuff (including the digital short “Lincoln” and the first installment of “Last Call,” a now-recurring sketch that tends to close out episodes) as well as fascinating disasters (“Mountain Call” is still cringe-worthy »

Happy Birthday, Elle Macpherson! Supermodel Turns 50

This is incredibly tough to believe, but Elle Macpherson is celebrating her 50th birthday today (wait, what?!). And she has no qualms about it, saying about her big 5-0, "I feel loved, balanced, happy, healthy and at peace with who I am." "Feeling good on the inside is more important to me now...looking good follows. My secret? Love, laughter...and my super greens," she continued. To say the former supermodel is fabulous at 50 is an understatement. Last July, Macpherson posed topless on the August cover of Harper's Bazaar Australia, wearing only a pair of thigh-high black stockings and bracelets—and she looked amazing! Pharrell Has a Tall Hat for Every Occasion: See His Green Version at the 2014 Kids' Choice Awards!

This feels like a set up for a good ol' fashioned sliming. Sporting the hat that keeps on giving, Pharrell stepped on the green carpet at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards Saturday, rocking a huge festive green hat (which kind of begs to be filled with green slime) and a zip-up top with "Girl" emblazoned on it in flowers--the name of his new album. J.K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter’ Spinoff ‘Fantastic Beasts’ Will Be Trilogy

8 hours ago | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Following in the footsteps of “The Hobbit” franchise, Warner Bros. is planning “three megamovies” for J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter spinoff, “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

The New York Times reports in its profile on WB CEO Kevin Tsujihara that the hotly anticipated franchise will be a trilogy.

Back when the series was first announced in September, Tsujihara was relatively tight-lipped about the project, only saying “The hope is that we’re going to build a film franchise.”

Tsujihara persuaded Rowling to revive the Harry Potter movie magic by adapting her Hogwarts textbook “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” for the big screen. Rowling wrote the 54-page book in 2001 between publication of the fourth and fifth Potter books.

“When I say he made ‘Fantastic Beasts’ happen, it isn’t P.R.-speak but the literal truth,” she said about Tsujihara. “We had one dinner, a follow-up telephone »
