Muppets Most Wanted (2014)- Adventure | Comedy | Crime | Family | Musical

Director:James Bobin |

The Buzz: Look for the joy generated by the recent Muppet movie's success to increase worldwide as we hope for a most-wanted third installment to be announced soon after opening weekend.
Divergent (2014)- Action | Adventure | Sci-Fi
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late.
Director:Neil Burger |

The Buzz: As every studio continues to try and crack the young-adult code, Summit Entertainment re-enters this particular arena after their take on Ender's Game proved to be a non-starter. You could probably teach a popular college course on the making and marketing of young-adult novels, but you'd still have trouble getting that demographic to see the movie adaptations in theaters. Good luck, Tris!
God's Not Dead (2014)Comedy | Drama | Family
College student Josh Wheaton's faith is challenged by his philosophy professor, who believes God does not exist.
Director:Harold Cronk |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: The Buzz here is that there is no Buzz. Really, we mean the studio behind Harold Cronk's college-set drama went with a bold release plan: ship the film out to roughly 800 theaters with minimal pre-release marketing, knowing that word-of-mouth is the best way for their story to take root.
Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013) - [Limited]- Drama
A self-diagnosed nymphomaniac recounts her erotic experiences to the man who saved her after a beating.
Director:Lars von Trier |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Imagine if your latest work was being overshadowed by Shia LaBeouf, a paper bag, and a black Sharpie.
Rob the Mob (2014) - [Limited]- Crime | Drama
A Queens couple who specialize in robbing mafia social clubs stumble upon a score bigger than they could ever imagine, becoming targets of both the mob and the FBI in the process.
Director:Raymond De Felitta |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Filmmaker Raymond De Felitta scored an indie hit last time out with City Island and his latest, which reunites the director with Andy Garcia, pulls together a pleasing cast for his freewheeling take on a true-crime story, a genre departure for De Felitta that will hopefully benefit from good word of mouth and atypical distribution. It's nice to see Michael Pitt back on the big screen, and his co-star Nina Arianda has received truly favorable notices for her work.
Jodorowsky's Dune (2013) - [Limited]- Documentary | Sci-Fi
The story of cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel.
Director:Frank Pavich |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Often referred to as "The Greatest Movie Never Made", Alejandro Jodorowsky's version of Dune was set to push the midnight-movie culture he help create into a new, unexplored universe. What we like knowing the most about Frank Pavich's documentary is its intention to show how Jodorowsky turned what some would call a failure into fuel for his subsequent creative endeavors.
Blood Ties (2013) - [Limited]- Crime | Drama | Thriller
Two brothers, on either side of the law, face off over organized crime in Brooklyn during the 1970s.
Director:Guillaume Canet |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Guillaume Canet, director of Tell No One and the equally potent Little White Lies, takes on a quintessentially American story for the first time -- perhaps to acclimate himself to Hollywood? -- with his latest project. We love the cast and really hope that Clive Owen becomes a movie (or TV) star again.
Cheap Thrills (2013) - [Limited]- Comedy | Thriller
A scheming couple put a struggling family man and his old friend through a series of increasingly twisted dares over the course of an evening at a local bar.
Director:E.L. Katz |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Pat Healy and Sara Paxton had memorable chemistry in the otherwise average throwback horror movie The Innkeepers, so we're interested in seeing how they reunite under different but equally threatening circumstances in E.L. Katz's comedy/thriller, a certified film-festival hit.
McCanick (2013) - [Limited]- Crime | Drama | Mystery | Thriller
Set over the course of one day, a narcotics detective hunts for a seemingly harmless young criminal who knows a truth about the cop's past.
Director:Josh C. Waller |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: Rest in peace, Cory Monteith. We're happy that your final performance has been well-received and finds you in such good company, with David Morse getting a deserved turn as leading man and Ciaran Hinds dutifully chewing up all available scenery.
