Forget the boys, let’s hear it for the girls.

Girl power reigned supreme at PaleyFest’s closing night presentation of “American Horror Story: Coven” on Friday night at the Dolby Theatre, where stars Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts and Angela Bassett humbly discussed what it was like to be part of what co-creator Ryan Murphy calls “the most amazing group of women that has ever been on TV.”

Networks Interrupt Programming To Cover 5.1 Earthquake And Aftershocks; Disneyland Shuts Down Rides

3 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

The local TV networks went into quake mode tonight — but not immediately. Kcbs, Knbc and Kabc continued with their regular 9 Pm programming after a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the Southland at 9:09 Pm. Kcal 9 did go live with news within about 15 minutes, and one of its co-anchors was Kent Shockneck — who famously doing a live newscast on Knbc when the 5.9 1987 Whittier Narrows quake struck and promptly got under his newsdesk. (Relive video of that incident below). Interestingly, tonight’s temblor occurred on same thrust fault that caused the ’87 quake, according to preliminary data. For their part, the three network O&Os went to their news teams by 10 Pm — pre-empting The Insider on CBS, Hannibal on NBC and 20/20 on ABC. Fox 11 went with its regular 10 Pm newscast. This was the second small-to-moderate earthquake to strike the Greater Los Angeles area in less than two weeks. Disneyland shut down its rides after the main quake, »

Michael Chiklis Joins ‘American Horror Story: Freak Show’

3 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Michael Chiklis is returning to FX, this time as part of the ensemble on “American Horror Story: Freak Show.”

Chiklis will play the former husband of Kathy Bates’ character and father of Evan Peters’ character in the fourth-season incarnation of “American Horror Story.” Creator Ryan Murphy announced the fan-friendly casting as part of the “Ahs” Paleyfest panel on Friday at the Dolby Theater.

Murphy disclosed earlier this week that “Freak Show” would live up to its title. Set in the early 1950s in Jupiter, Fla., “Ahs” mainstay Jessica Lange will play a German expatriate who runs a sideshow circus.

Chiklis starred in the edgy cop show “The Shield” that put FX on the map with original programming map from 2002 to 2008. The TV vet most recently starred in CBS’ period drama “Vegas” last season.

Chiklis was on hand for Friday’s Paleyfest session to trumpet the news.

After Chasing Jimmy Fallon On Twitter, Ford Strikes Ad Pact With ‘Tonight’

4 hours ago | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Ford Motor Co. won a heated contest among Detroit’s top automakers to get “Tonight” host Jimmy Fallon to buy one of their trucks, and may have done so through an ad pact with NBCUniversal.

Automakers including Ford, General Motors, Chrysler Group’s Ram Trucks and even Nissan have lit up Twitter since March 5 after Fallon revealed on “Tonight” that he intended to buy a truck. In the first segment of the March 28th episode of the program, Fallon revealed he had chosen a Ford F-150, and that the show would spend next week showing 10 Ford dealers from around the U.S. competing to sell him the vehicle by keeping their hands on a F-150 placed on the U.S.S. Intrepid in New York City.

The contest, called “Fingers on a 4X4,” was given an on-screen graphic festooned with a Ford logo, and the automaker made its victory known »

'American Horror Story: Freak Show' adds Michael Chiklis; Emma Roberts and Gabourey Sidibe returning

Exciting news from the "American Horror Story: Freak Show" panel at Paleyfest 2014. "The Shield" Emmy winner Michael Chiklis is joining the cast for the fourth season of the show.

Creator Ryan Murphy says, "[Michael Chiklis] is playing Evan [Peter's] father and he will be Kathy Bates' ex-husband," which is exciting indeed. Murphy does not specify if Bates is Peters' mother, however.

Chiklis says of his reaction when Murphy pitched the piece to him, "I'm terrified and I'm going to do it."

Murphy also confirms that every person on the panel is coming back in some capacity, which means in addition to the previously-announced Jessica Lange, Angela Basset, Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Frances Conroy and Sarah Paulson, Season 4 will also feature Denis O'Hare, Gabourey Sidibe, Emma Roberts, Jamie Brewer and Chiklis. Murphy further says that there will be a few faces from Seasons 1 and 2 appearing in Season 4, but he does not reveal who they might be. »

‘Saint George’ Hits Low In Week 4, Not Likely To Continue Beyond Initial Order At FX

5 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Airing against Ncaa basketball on CBS and TBS last night, George Lopez‘s sitcom Saint George drew 721,000 total viewers on FX, down 9% from last Thursday and a new series low for the comedy as it approaches the midpoint of its initial 10-episode run. Compared with its series premiere, last night’s fourth episode was down 40%. In adults 18-49, it delivered 401, 000 viewers, down 15% from last week and off 28% from the premiere (see ratings chart below). Saint George hails from Lionsgate TV and sibling TV distribution company Debmar-Mercury and is produced under Debmar-Mercury’s 10/90 model. That means a straight-to-series 10-episode order which, if a ratings threshold is met, triggers a 90-episode back order. Lionsgate/Debmar-Mercuty’s FX sitcom Anger Management, starring Charlie Sheen, is a product of the same model. Its original 10-episode order, fueled by a big initial interest in Sheen post-Two And A Half Men, hit the ratings target »

"Helix" has been renewed for Season 2 on Syfy. The tense, mysterious series will return in 2015 with 13 new episodes.

"Helix has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy," says Syfy executive vice president Bill McGoldrick in a statement. "The incredibly talented writing and producing team have crafted a thriller that consistently delivered suspense, twists and high quality drama. We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season."

Moore ("Battlestar Galactica"), Steven Maeda and Lynda Obst, "Helix" tells the story of a Cdc team that heads to a remote Arctic base, only to find much more than an disease outbreak.

CNN’s Piers Morgan Signs Off With Final Blast At U.S. Gun Laws

6 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Piers Morgan wrapped his three-year CNN run tonight with (gasp!) a full hour of discussion about the missing plane. But in his four-minute final remarks, he couldn’t resist taking a parting shot at the NRA. “I assumed that after 70 people were shot in a movie theater, and then, just a few months later, 20 first-graders were murdered with an assault rifle in an elementary school, the absurd gun laws in this country would change,” he said. “But nothing has happened. The gun lobby in America, led by the NRA, has bullied this nation’s politicians into cowardly, supine silence. Even when 20 young children are blown away in their classrooms. This is a shameful situation that has made me very angry.” He continued to rail and wrapped it with this: “But I’ve made my point. … Now it’s down to you. It’s your country; these are your gun laws. »

Press Runs Interference For ‘The Colbert Report’ As #CancelColbert Grows Louder

6 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Column: Social media went all Lord of the Flies today over a Twitter conflagration that erupted when @ColbertReport tweeted out a single line that Stephen Colbert had delivered on Wednesday night’s The Colbert Report mocking Dan Snyder for his latest reaction to the calls to change the racist name of his Washington NFL team. Snyder, in an effort to placate those calling for a name change  — including President Obama — recently announced he’s started a foundation to help Native Americans. Proving his critics’ point, he hilariously named it The Washington Redskins Original Americans Foundation. “I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever,” @ColbertReport tweeted yesterday. It since has been deleted. Related: ‘Colbert Report’ Embroiled In Racial Controversy It’s a line from a bit he did on the Wednesday edition of his Comedy Central show which, »

Starz’s ‘Da Vinci’s Demons’ Down In Season 2 Debut, On Par In Premiere Weekend

7 hours ago | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Starz‘s fantasy drama learned the hard way last weekend just how important a lead-in can be. With the 2013 pic White House Down playing beforehand, the Season 2 premiere of Da Vinci’s Demons fell 44% from its Season 1 debut last year. The Saturday night 9 Pm airing on March 22 had 580,000 total viewers. Having the series finale of Spartacus: War Of The Damned as its lead-in, the Season 1 premiere pulled in 1.04 million total viewers in its 10 Pm airing on on Friday, April 12. The news for the David S. Goyer-created series’ Season 2 debut gets a lot better when all its plays over the whole weekend are counted up. The Adjacent Productions show drew 2 million viewers over all its broadcasts last weekend. That’s just a 6% dip from the 2.14 million that Demons had over its Season 1 debut weekend last year. It’s also a 41% rise over the show’s Season 1 finale weekend in early June. »
