FCC issues new rules that crack down on local TV partnerships

The Federal Communications Commission approved new rules Monday that will greatly reduce and potentially bring to an end the popular practice of business partnerships between competing local television stations.

FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler said such partnerships have been abused by many broadcasters who have used so-called joint sales agreements to get around the regulatory agency's rules limiting the number of television stations a broadcaster can own.

The new guidelines are seen as a blow to several big broadcasters including Sinclair Broadcast Group and Nexstar Broadcasting, two of the nation'...

'Walking Dead' Season 4 finale draws 15.7 million viewers

Sunday night's Season 4 finale of AMC's "The Walking Dead" walked away with big ratings, but not quite big enough for a series record.

The episode averaged 15.7 million viewers total, up 27% from the last episode of the third season, according to Nielsen. The episode pulled in 10.2 million viewers in the advertiser-desired 18- to 49-year-old demographic.

Still, it failed to surpass the season premiere in October, which delivered a whopping 16.1 million viewers, 10.4 million of whom were in the 18-49 category, marking the series' best-ever numbers.

TV ratings: 'Resurrection' down vs. 'Walking Dead'; 'Good Wife' up

Most network series fell in the ratings Sunday night as the fourth-season finale of AMC's "The Walking Dead" took a bite out of rivals' viewership. CBS' "The Good Wife," however, surged after last week's big plot twist.

"Resurrection," ABC's high-rated freshman drama, drew 8.2 million viewers and a rating of 2.3 among advertiser-desired 18- to 49-year-olds, according to early numbers from Nielsen. Compared with last week's episode, "Resurrection" posted an 8% decline in the key demographic.

Fox's "Cosmos," which also faced "The Walking Dead" directly, fell 12% week-to-week to a 1.5 in the 18-...

Smooth sailing for 'Noah.' ABC's Josh Elliott jumps to NBC.

After the coffee. Before figuring out how to use my iPhone.

The Skinny: I finally broke down and got an iPhone. I am a dinosaur no more. Now I just have to master the touch screen, which I hate. It was a touching episode of "The Good Wife" as everyone deals with Will's death. And if you don't know by now what happened on the drama then it's on you, not me. Monday's headlines includes the box office recap, a profile of Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara and some big-name TV folks will have new homes.

Logan Lerman plays Ham in the movie "Noah," which includes digital effects done in India.

Digital artists in India make U.S. films pop

MUMBAI, India — Darren Aronofsky may be a household name in Hollywood, where his last two films were critically acclaimed hits. But to the young Indian artists laboring on the director's newest project — the Biblical epic "Noah" — he was just another client with a looming deadline.

"Who's the director on that?" an American supervisor quizzed a group of serious-faced young men clustered around a computer inside the dim, maze-like production room at Prime Focus studios in suburban Mumbai.

The technicians, who were converting a shot of the title character's legendary ark to 3-D,...
