Bougainville (North Solomon Province)

North Solomon ProvinceBougainville Island is known as North Solomon Province and is one of the island province east of the PNG mainland.

Bougainville Island is very rich in terms of agricultural produce and mineral resources. The Island was once the leading producer of cocoa, copra and other comodities. The giant copper mine in Panguna generated huge revenue for Papua New Guinea during early days of Independence.

The closure of Panguna Mine due to landowner issues and past military blocade imposed as a result of arms uprising brought the province to its knees. Today the people of Bougainville dream for a better life and self determination is becoming a reality. The future and the hope for the new generation of Bougainvilleans depend on the new "Bougainville Constitution".
