Soka Gakkai Reelects President Einosuke Akiya

Einosuke Akiya

Einosuke Akiya (75) has been reelected as Soka Gakkai president for another five-year term, starting July 18, 2006. The Presidential Selection Committee headed by Ryozo Nishiguchi, chairman of the Executive Council, met July 6 at the Soka Gakkai Headquarters in Shinjuku, Tokyo, in accordance with the organization's regulations. The committee unanimously reelected Akiya as president.

The election was subsequently approved by the Soka Gakkai's Executive Guidance Conference. President Akiya was inaugurated as the fifth president of the Soka Gakkai in 1981 succeeding Hiroshi Hojo. This will be his sixth term.

Einosuke Akiya was born on July 15, 1930, in Tokyo. He graduated from Waseda University majoring in French literature and joined the Soka Gakkai in 1951. He served as Young Men's Division Leader, Youth Division Leader, and became a vice president in 1970.
