I am pleased to announce that Windows 7 has RTM’d!
As I mentioned previously, RTM officially happens only after sign-off occurs. What happens is a build gets designated as a RTM contender after going through significant testing and meeting our quality bar for RTM. Then, it goes though all the validation checks required for RTM including having all languages of that build completed. If all the validation checks have passed – sign-off for RTM can occur. Today after all the validation checks were met, we signed off and declared build 7600 as RTM.
Not only is RTM an important milestone for us – it’s also an important milestone for our partners. Today’s release is the result of hard work and collaboration with our partners in the industry to make Windows 7 a success. We delivered Windows 7 with a predictable feature set on a predictable timetable that allowed OEMs to focus on value and differentiation for their customers.
Our customers told us what they want (and expect) and we defined those specific experiences and then built features to support them (like HomeGroup and the Windows Taskbar enhancements). Our customers also told us that “fundamentals” on both the hardware and software side was extremely important. Windows 7 today runs great on the broadest array of hardware types ranging from netbooks to high-end gaming machines. We worked closely with OEMs so that their PCs delight customers with the new features in Windows 7.
Of course, today’s release is also the result of the amazing amount of feedback we received from the millions of people who tested Windows 7 – from Beta to RC. We actually had over 10 million people opt-in to the Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP). That’s a lot of people opting in to help us make Windows 7 a solid release. Through CEIP, our engineers were guided by customer feedback all the way to RTM. We also have had a great group of beta testers who have dedicated a great deal of their time to testing Windows 7 too. A special thank you goes out to all the people who helped test Windows 7.
I’d also like to give a shout-out to my friends over on the Windows Server Team. Today they are also announcing that Windows Server 2008 R2 has RTM’d. The RTM code will be delivered to our partners within the next few days who will then start preparing to deliver some amazing new products timed to hit at General Availability (GA) of Windows 7 on October 22nd. We continue to be overwhelmed at the community’s response to Windows 7 and it has been an extremely rewarding experience to witness. We hope the enthusiasm will continue to grow even more as our partners build amazing experiences with their products and Windows 7.

I downloaded RC version when it published and I installed it immediatelly. Everything has been great untill my copy of win7 decided to crash and it messed up my whole computer. So I needed to download it again, but surpise surprise it isnt available any longer. So what was the reason to stop sharing it? I feel very angry and I think that was some imbesills decision. Why it can be downloaded version as long as full version comes out? Maybe thereis good reason not to share RC anymore, but what can say but fuk u, u let me down. Now I have to install XP again:/ btw no wonder there is massive torrent traffic:D

It looks like in Italy it will not possible to purchase an upgrade versione, only a clean install ( lindipendente.splinder.com/.../No+Windows+7+Clean+Install%2C+pl ) This is a SERIOUS problem, since a clean install requires to rebuild the whole platform. It is impossible because of the applications purchased on-line in years and upgrades. Furthermore no upgrade will be in any case available from XP! Why that crazy policy?

What are the changes made in this build compared to RC version? =)
While installing, i had problems with ULi SATA drivers(HDD), Which i didnt get with Vista, but 7.
Does Microsoft had solved this driver issue? I had downloaded latest driver from Vendor and need to insert an Extra CD/Thumb drive while installation for the setup to recognize my ULi SATA device =(

i can't wait to install, but I think Windows 7 would be had improved two things that "haunts" users since Windows 95:
1- update the color picker dialog, which is the same since Windows 95
2- Show multi-dotted files extensions. Cause only hidding the first extension is potentially harmful, once a time that files like 'example_apps.cs.xaml' and 'letter-i-love-you.txt.vbs' has very difference when hide the first extension.

That still doesn't explain why it takes FOURTEEN DAYS to prep for distribution.
Considering that Microsoft has a huge farm of computers to build code, it could compile the whole OS probably overnight. Then have the code fitted as ISOs, one x86_32 and one x86_64. Those ISOs could be pushed out to MSDN and TechNet in three days, tops.
Also, that still doesn't answer when it will be in MSDN-AA.
Finally, what edition will be provided in MSDN and MSDNAA? Would it be the Professional, the Enterprise, or the Ultimate Edition?

So, finally you're able to offer a very good OS after the disaster that was Vista. Kudos to the developers. But your marketing efforts are utterly ridiculous. I mean, you do want to push this thing, don't you? Alas, six versions where there should only be one plus outrageous pricing. Why can't you get it together for real!?
I wanted to buy Windows 7, but I'm so not willing to shell out 320 Euros for Ultimate just to get a certain feature (MUI) that I consider very basic.

Does anyone know what edition of Windows 7 RTM the MSDN keys will give us? I'm guessing it will be the business edition.

Ehh...I've installer russian version today and what can I say - it is FAIL. Shame on you, Microsoft...Lots of bugs in UI and localisation, strange bugs with OS speed...And not only me have these problems - people on forums discuss! I can't believe you signed it off. If 7600.16385 is signed RTM Gold Code - you better cancel it and fix this silly bugs. People are waiting for stable OS...

That build string is from a leaked version, which may or may not be the correct version. It could also contain huge amounts of malware. I think I'll hold off until an official statement.

That's my point too... Why does it takes two weeks before it become available on Technet and MSDN?
Wonderful. Now why does it take two weeks for the RTM build to go out and become available to MSDN, TechNet, etc.?
