The ACT Criminal Justice Statistical Profile (the Profile) is a historical series of crime data that is compiled quarterly by the Legislation, Policy and Programs Branch (LPP) of the ACT Justice and Community Safety Directorate and then tabled in the Legislative Assembly.
The Profile contains data from ACT Policing, ACT Law Courts, ACT Corrective Services, Restorative Justice Unit, Galambany Court, Office of Children, Youth and Family Support and Victims Support ACT for the previous three months.
The Profile provides Government, community agencies and the public, with data on varying levels of crime in the ACT and the responses to crimes by the criminal justice system.
For the first half of 2013, LPP expanded its ongoing review of the content and presentation of the Profile by conducting a consultation process with Government and community stakeholders. The web page 2013 Consultation Review (the 2013 Review) provides more detailed information, with a summary of the review findings and a link to the review report.
The latest quarterly Profile is available below. Key highlights for the quarter are found in the Key highlights analysis - September 2013 [PDF 1.3 MB]. Email alerts are available when each quarterly Profile is released if you register interest in the Profile.
Numerous agencies contribute to the Profile. LPP acknowledges the assistance of the following agencies:
For more information on the Profile, see the Profile’s Statement of Purpose and Explanatory Notes [PDF 728 KB] or contact LPP on 6205 4786.
Note also that there are many other sources of ACT criminal justice data, including ACT Policing’s Crime Statistics web site (contains crime by location), the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Australian Institute of Criminology.
The data for the Profile is requested from Agencies at the end of the quarter and analysed in the following month. The Profile is then tabled in the Legislative Assembly sittings that are as close as possible to the second month after the quarter has ended. For example the June quarter data is requested in the first week of July and the completed Profile is then tabled in the August sittings of the Legislative Assembly.
