Privacy Policy

This section of the page explains how the U.S. Agency for International Development’s program called AIDSTAR-ONE and its website, AIDSTAR-ONE.com will handle information we learn about you from your visit here. The information we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site.

There are three ways to engage with us and where information is gathered:

  1. 1) When signing up for email-distributed information products
  2. 2) When submitting a Good and Promising Programmatic Practice (G3P)
  3. 3) When using the site-wide or G3P-specific search mechanism

If you identify yourself in order to register for email-based products

You may identify yourself by providing personally identifiable information in order to receive information, such as newsletters, request inclusion on a distribution list, or participate in on-line collaboration forums. AIDSTAR-ONE will not disclose the information and will only use the information for the purpose for which it was provided. However, in certain instances, such as participation in on-line collaboration forums or discussion groups, the information you provide may be visible to other forum participants. AIDSTAR-ONE is not responsible for how other participants may use your information.

If you submit a G3P

The G3P database system collects personally-identifiable information, but is limited to name and email address. This is used only to allow the program to communicate directly to submitters if more information is needed to complete a submission.

If you use the search tool

We will keep a record of the searches conducted on the site, but will not associate them with users. The searches are used only for content planning purposes.

Note: From time to time we will conduct optional user surveys, but will not collect any personal information.

We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally-identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us or if it is critical to key site functions. We maintain the information we collect in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, where applicable.

Cookies

This site does NOT use the "cookies" that some Web sites use to gather and store information about your visits to their sites.  Cookies are essentially tokens of information, such as preferences and passwords, which some Web servers collect from you when you access them. That data is stored on your hard drive-not on the Web site's server.  Whenever you visit a "cookie" site, the server looks for its cookie on your hard drive and, if found, then reads the information it stored there. Cookies generally are stored in your browser's directory or folder in a file named cookie.txt (MagicCookie on a Macintosh).

USAID takes the safeguarding of any personally identifying information very seriously.

Further, some of the links on the USAID web site point to non-USAID sites which may place cookies on your computer. You should know that the non-USAID site may still place a cookie on your computer.

If you want to avoid such cookies, we encourage you to set your browser to notify you when cookies are being set and allow you to reject them.  Your system's help files will explain how to do this.
