Green Waste

Food and Grasscycling

compost binFood and grass clippings account for up to 1/3 of household garbage. Learn to compost and grasscycle by checking out FREE videos Composting in Minutes, Taking Care of Your Own -- Composting for the 90's and Grasscycling from Arcata video stores and the Arcata library or read Backyard Composting Made Easy. Those within the city limits, upon presentation of a water bill/receipt or a rental contract/receipt, can purchase a compost bin for $20 while supplies last. These can be purchased at the City of Arcata Environmental Services Department, 736 F Street, during regular business hours.

Greenwaste Drop-off

Wes Green Landscaping takes greenwaste and unpainted lumber, up to an equivalent of forty-eight 1 yard drops (or fewer larger loads) every calendar year,  at no charge for Arcata Garbage customers who live within city limits.  To drop green waste, one must present a photo I.D. with an address that matches the garbage account address.

If you have a gardener or landscaping service, you must either email, wesgreenLm@yahoo.com or fax, 822-9621, a letter with the name of the person who will be dropping off green waste that that person is generating by performing gardening services at your property.

If you live within the Arcata city limits and have garbage service but find that this system still does not meet your needs, please call the Environmental Services Department (707) 822-8184 or eservices@cityofarcata.org.
