Skullgirls Encore to return to PlayStation Network

We're still awaiting information on the XBLA release, however.

Following its December 2013 delisting from PSN and XBLA, we're now happy to report that sassy 2D fighter Skullgirls is set to make a return on PSN.

The newly labelled Skullgirls Encore will hit the North American PSN on February 11, just a little later than its originally projected release date of January. According to Zero Lab Games' Peter Bartholow in a NeoGAF thread, they're hoping for an EU PSN release the following week, though nothing is confirmed yet.

All previous owners of Skullgirls on PSN will receive Skullgirls Encore for free upon release, though this "new and distinct" version of the game means that the original's DLC will be incompatible. Encore will contain a number of additions already present on Skullgirls' Steam version, including new crowdfunded character Squigly, who will be free to download for a limited amount of time.

There's still no word on the XBLA release; Bartholow says, "360 was always expected to take longer because there are more companies involved in the transition." Unlike the PSN version, Skullgirls Encore on Xbox will be a patched version of the game rather than a new product, meaning that existing DLC and player statistics will remain intact.

Thanks goes to Shoryuken for their updates on the Skullgirls saga.
