Labor Day (2013)
Depressed single mom Adele and her son Henry offer a wounded, fearsome man a ride. As police search town for the escaped convict, the mother and son gradually learn his true story as their options become increasingly limited.

The Buzz: From what we hear, Jason Reitman's fifth film feels more like his first time in the director's chair, as his adaptation of Joyce Maynard's novel has earned the dreaded comparisons to your standard Lifetime Original Movie. Is this why Paramount ultimately decided to give the film an Oscar-qualifying release at the end of the year and a wide release in the cold of winter? Reitman wasted no time getting his next project rolling.
That Awkward Moment (2014)
Three best friends find themselves where we've all been - at that confusing moment in every dating relationship when you have to decide "So...where is this going?"
Director:Tom Gormican |

The Buzz: That awkward moment when Zac Efron realizes he doesn't have as much heat as his co-stars here. And I don't know many people who'd like to see any of these guys become domesticated.
Tim's Vermeer (2013) - [Limited]
Inventor Tim Jenison seeks to understand the painting techniques used by Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer.
Director:Teller |
|
Watch Trailer |
The Buzz: A near-miss for this year's Best Documentary Oscar final roster, Penn and Teller unveil the man magic of Tim Jenison as he applies a set of unique skills in his effort to understand Vermeer's painting techniques by essentially forging one of the Dutch Master's works. We love a fastidious documentary and look forward to one that veers away from the age-old scenario of art vs. commerce in favor of art vs. science.
Best Night Ever (2014) - [Limited]
Claire is about to get married and she goes to Las Vegas with her sister and two friends for her bachelorette party. Things quickly spiral out of control.

The Buzz: Think more Bachelorette than Bridesmaids here since we sense that audiences will discover this R-rated comedy at home. And congratulations of a sort are due to co-directors Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (Epic Movie, et al.) for finally getting out of the spoof-comedy slum.
At Middleton (2013) - [Limited]
Two parents fall in love over the course of a single day while playing hooky from their children's college tour.
Director:Adam Rodgers |

The Buzz: It's refreshing to see Vera Farmiga in a light comedy in between her success with The Conjuring and her equally unnerving TV show, "Bates Motel". Trying not to judge the movie beforehand, it's odd that the pairing of Farmiga and Andy Garcia didn't earn a much more splashy releasing from Anchor Bay Films since the indie studio had such a successful outing with him in City Island a few years back.
