See the brilliant trailer for 'Fosse' by Sam Wasson -- EXCLUSIVE

Fosse-by-Sam-Wasson.jpg

We debut a lot of trailers at Shelf Life, but this brilliant clip for Sam Wasson’s upcoming biography of Bob Fosse (out Nov. 5) — appropriately titled Fosse — may be one of the best. Wasson, author of the best-selling Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M., spent three and a half years writing this 750-page epic about the epic man responsible for iconic dance numbers in Chicago, Cabaret, and other Oscar- and Tony-winning shows. This hilarious video shows Wasson attempting to emulate his subject’s womanizing, passionate, and perfectionist ways. Wasson may not have succeeded in becoming Fosse, but he succeeded in bringing him to life in his bio. Watch the cameo-packed video below! READ FULL STORY

See James Franco star in the book trailer for 'Actors Anonymous': 'I Am The Actor' -- EXCLUSIVE

Actors-Anonymous.jpg

James Franco writes what he knows in his offbeat first novel Actors Anonymous (Oct. 15), which follows his debut short story collection Palo Alto (2010). The structure of the novel is based partly on the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, in that members of an actor’s support group make wild confessions from the trenches of their profession in each chapter.

In this exclusive book trailer, Franco and his fellow actors recite some of the maxims, confessions, observations found in the book, like “I’m a good actor, but sometimes I look like a bad actor,” and “I used to care about how I looked. Now I don’t care so much. Maybe it’s because I’m so handsome.”

Endless, the fourth and penultimate book in Jessica Shirvington’s Embrace series, hits U.S. shelves Oct. 1. Here, we’ve got the exclusive first look at the trailer: “I have been a huge fan of all of the trailers that have been produced in the U.S, but this one especially sends a shiver up my spine,” says Shirvington. “I think it captures so much of the feeling of the book—not an easy thing to do in under a minute!” Check out the video after the jump, and then read on for a chat with Shirvington about the book and the conclusion of her Embrace series. Warning: minor spoilers ahead! READ FULL STORY

Watch the thrilling trailer for Adam Mansbach's 'The Dead Run' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Dead-Run.jpg

Something is stirring in the US-Mexican border deserts, and it isn’t Walter White cooking in an RV. Go the F— to Sleep author Adam Mansbach trades in irreverent “children’s” fare for the dark and supernatural with his upcoming novel, The Dead Run.

Set in the contentious borderlands between the United States and Mexico, The Dead Run follows El Cucuy, a boogeyman and evil force that transcends mere myth, as he plots to regain his former glory and power through his son. The stories of three very different people — a wrongly imprisoned man, an escaped former cult member, and a desperate police chief — weave together as they encounter El Cucuy’s will in this tense, paranormal thriller.

Disaster-artist.jpg

What do you do when you’ve appeared in one of the worst films ever made? Why, write a book about it, of course!

Okay, so that’s not what usually happens. But there is very little which could be considered “usual” about the infamous, so-bad-it’s-amazing 2003 film The Room, one of whose stars, Greg Sestero (“Oh, hi Mark!”), has now penned a book called The Disaster Artist: My Life Inside The Room, the Greatest Bad Movie Ever Made. Published by Simon & Schuster on Oct. 1 and cowritten with noted pop culture scribe Tom Bissell, the tome tracks Sestero’s involvement with The Room and his friendship with the film’s prime creative force-cum-onscreen love machine, the mercurial Tommy Wiseau.

Is it tearing you apart that you have to wait a couple of weeks before getting your hands on a copy? Then feel free to check out the trailer for The Disaster Artist below.
