  1. Olfactory Architectures

Smell is a sense most architects have engaged with at some point in their work: whether designing a house, a residential care home or the industrial kitchen for a commercial restaurant, the ventilation of rooms and removal of strong and potentially unpleasant odours is a well-rehearsed practice. Yet in addition to the annoying smells, olfaction also offers many opportunities that have traditionally been overlooked, and it’s not just in architecture but right across the built environment professions.

  2. Understanding Housing Defects: 4th Edition

Understanding Housing Defects provides a concise, coherent and comprehensive introduction to the causes, investigation and diagnosis of defects in domestic buildings. 2. Talking with Brook Muller about Ecology and the Architectural Imagination

"Thinking about ecology is an amazing way to energize the architectural design process. It opens up all kinds of exciting design opportunities. Engaging ecology also requires that we acknowledge contingency and surprise as central to undertakings pertaining to the restructuring of the environment. It requires that we operate more aggressively (because the situation is urgent) and with more humility (because we can never be entirely sure what we are setting in motion)."

This book provides a comprehensive overview of the technology behind the pico-solar revolution and offers guidance on how to test and choose quality products. The book also discusses how pioneering companies and initiatives are overcoming challenges to reach scale in the marketplace, from innovative distribution strategies to reach customers in rural India and Tanzania, to product development in Cambodia, product assembly in Mozambique and the introduction of ‘pay as you go’ technology in Kenya.

  2. Cliff Moser Talks with Routledge About Architecture 3.0

In Architecture 3.0, architects are design solvers first—engaging in simulation studies, data gathering, developing strong multi-disciplined teams, and then building designers secondly (if at all).

Justin Hollander, author of Sunburnt Cities, has conducted significant research on urban shrinkage in the Rust and Sun Belts. He views this changing front with an optimistic eye.
