We enjoyed a nice walk along the trails in the preserve today - great day for a snowshoe hike. We enjoyed the stone walls. Very little topo for those who want to bring young kids.

hiked this trail with a large dog today...the initial rock scrambles were hard for the dog but comfortable otherwise...the views of the frozen Hudson river were magnificent!

Easy to find and easy trail way to the top. The hike was a little moderate though I went in the winter. Keep going till you hit the tower the views are entirely worth it so beautiful. Took my black lab with me she had a blast. Didn't see any other hikers. Definitely tiring if your not in shape but the reward is a cold spring to drink from and the views. Was pretty pissed the fire tower was locked when I got to the top being the windchill was zero or below at least. Altogether a good time and beautiful view.

Recent snow with ~12' plus for much of the upper "trail", 15 degrees, light wind, overcast. There are three ways to the summit - a sled trail, an old logging road trail and the way we went which was a combination of the old logging road to a bushwack to the tower, then down the sled trail for 200' to a bushwack for the rest of it. This was a tough bushwack due to the heavy snow (over a foot) and the significant amount of blow down in some areas and logging debris in others (gets caught up in snowshoes). The tower area is nice but the only views (in winter) are along various peek out spots during the hike. Should have been about 2.25 miles but we made it 2.5 and about 2 hours long with our route.

Fantastic hike! At 4427', the 10.6 round trip hike to Tabletop (ADK peak #19) was our sons first winter high peak. It was 20 degrees and heavy snow at parking with a forecast to drop throughout the day down to 5 degrees by 4pm so we started out our day at the TH at 9:30 with plans to hike Tabletop and if we had time we would also do Phelps on the way out. We took our time and enjoyed our hike in and up to the summit and had enough time to easily make it out in the daylight but we decided not to push it and come back for Phelps later. The sun broke through for a few moments on the way out to let us know this was the right choice for the day.

This was an excellent hike! A perfect January day - 34 degrees, no wind and full sun! We enjoyed the hike up and were glad we had spikes on for the steeper sections as they had a thick coating of ice. The rest of the trail had very limited amounts of snow. Its only about an hour up to a very scenic summit. On the way down the southern side toward Black and Lapland Ponds there were several views, exposed rock and very little snow until we reached the base trail. A very enjoyable hike, can't wait to go back.

I forgot to mention one thing I did happen to see very large paw prints that didn't look like dog prints I've seen before. besides being big the prints were very wide. If I can find the photo we took ill post it.
