Black Sails
A cable drama thick with political intrigue, sex, violence, badly-bearded men, barely clad women playing (of course) whores, Black Sails is Game of Thrones but with pirates. And guess what? It's gritty-smart adult fun. Toby Stephens rivets as embattled Captain Flynt, obsessed with seizing a mythic treasure ship and quelling mutiny among his crew. The pilot impresses by being sprawling and tightly plotted, throwing scores of distinctive, promising characters at you in an action packed, twisty plot. Here's how good and different Black Sails is: It makes pirate economics sexy. And who knew pirates had economics?! Not even a guilty pleasure: Black Sails is Arrrrrr-estingly good. B+
