When Chris Evans' patriotic hero last saw his best friend, Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), they were still fighting World War II and his pal was plunging off the side of a train into a frozen wasteland. Flash forward to the present, and both have survived thanks to genetic engineering — but the brainwashed Bucky, now known as the Winter Soldier, isn't fighting for the good guys anymore. Marvel Studios president and producer Kevin Feige describes the sequel as a 1970s-style conspiracy thriller (it's no accident he recruited Three Days of the Condor star Robert Redford for a role). ''I don't subscribe to the theory that the comic-book movie or the superhero movie is a genre unto itself,'' Feige says. ''We like to take a genre and put our heroes into it.''
