Recreation briefs: Kramer wins Lindsay Brown Winter Blast

Corbin Kramer was the top finisher in the Lindsay Brown Winter Blast 5K held at Rockledge High Saturday morning.

Kramer finished the 5,000-meter run in 17 minutes, 53.65 seconds. Mackenzie Baysinger was the top female finisher with a time of 20:30.27.

David Flickinger finished second, finishing in 18:53.95.

All proceeds go to the J. Kyle Braid Leadership Foundation. The race is run in memory and honor of Lindsay Brown, who attended Rockledge High.

Adult basketball league in March

The Eau Gallie Civic Center is hosting an adult basketball league beginning March 24.

The league will have divisions for ages 18 and up and 35 and up.

It will have a 10-game season plus a tournament at the end of the season with games in the evening.

Cost is $395 per team with registration beginning Feb. 3.

Dodgeball tourney set for March 22

The inaugural Harbor City Dodgeball Tournament is scheduled for March 22 at the Eau Gallie Civic Center.

The tournament, which will begin at 9 a.m. and go throughout the day, will be for teams with between six and 10 players and has divisions for ages 17 and under and 18 and over.

The cost is $55 per team and winning teams will receive T-shirts. For more information, call 321-255-4638.

Adult flag football coming to Melbourne

The City of Melbourne will host a 7 on 7 adult flag football league beginning Feb. 9.

The league, which is for players 18 years old and up, will have 10 games plus a single-elimination tournament with the men’s league playing Sunday afternoons beginning Feb. 9 and the women’s league set for Tuesday nights beginning Feb. 11.

The team fee is $470 and games will be played at Lipscomb Street Park in Melbourne. Registration can be done in person at the Eau Gallie Civic Center or the Grant Street Community Center until Feb. 3.

South area church softball league

The 2014 Brevard County-South Area BCSA Church Softball League is holding registrations.

The league will play games on Tuesday nights at Palm Bay Regional Park and the cost per team is $445.

Friday night flag football league

The Palm Bay Parks and Recreation Department is offering a 2014 Winter Friday Night Flag Football League starting Jan. 29 at Liberty Park.

The cost to play is $450 per team.

Okinawan New Year celebration

The Okinawan New Year will be celebrated on Feb. 8 from 2-7 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 211 S. Nieman Avenue in Melbourne at the Space Coast Okinawa Kenjin-Kai Yuimaru-Kai 2014 New Year Celebration.

Activities as part of the celebration will include traditional Okinawan dances with Japanese-style clothing, the playing of the Okinawan musical instrument, shanshin and kata and weapons demonstration by Cocoa Beach Karate Matsubayaski Ryu, led by Sensei Des Chaskelson.

Chicken and pork will be served for adults, and chicken fingers for children.

The cost of the event is $15 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Those interested in tickets should e-mail yuimarukai@yahoo.com.
