Cuban Guys is a fast-food style Cuban restaurant that wins for two reasons: taste and variety. It offers three different types of flan. The first is the guava flan which should be a favorite of any Cuban food lover since guava is a staple of Cuban pastries. The second is the cappuccino flan for those who like café in their dessert rather than on the side and the final flan is the original which is great for those who like to stick to what they know or just like the no-nonsense taste of classic flan. No matter what you choose, every taste is a winner.

Everything at Sazón Cuban Cuisine is absolutely wonderful but it’s the flan that you must try. Sazón offers three varieties: original, flan de queso (cheese flan) and flan de coco (coconut flan) which is topped with real coconut. This restaurant even has a weekday lunch deal. If you order off the special lunch menu Monday thru Friday between 11 a.m and 3 p.m., your meal comes with a complimentary flan. How’s that for great deal at a great price!

Like Sazón, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu at Versailles. This bakery has four different flavors of flan sure to tickle your tastebuds. Choose between caramel, chocolate, coconut or cheese. Better yet, come back and try all four and order a Cuban coffee to compliment your dessert. If you’d like, you can even order crème brulée so you can taste the difference between the desserts for yourself.
Havana 1
1101 Truman Ave.
Key West, FL 33040

Havana 1 is not your traditional Cuban restaurant. Its claim to fame is that it is the only Cuban restaurant in the world that is also an art studio. So that means that you can sit down with your flan, which is served pie-style on a plate with a fun design made from chocolate and strawberry sauces, and marvel at the artwork on your plate and on display. After finishing your flan, you can buy that art that you’ve been admiring and take home an extra piece of flan for the road. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

Date: October 27 from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Price: $30 in advance; $40 at the door
Don Carlin does not make fancy flan. It serves grade A, homemade flan also known as flan de la casa. The round-shaped dish is served simply on a plate and will have you remembering the days when your mother used to make the best flan you ever tasted. Stop on in for a taste of home. Also, if really trying to cure that dessert craving, order up the tres leches cake as well. These two dishes are unreal.
