Sleepy-Hollow-clip.jpg

Wake up, Sleepyheads! The wait for a new episode of Fox’s Sleepy Hollow is almost over! The show is back Jan. 13 with “The Vessel,” which sets things in motion for the two-hour Jan. 20 season 1 finale. “This episode will bring a lot of things together,” Orlando Jones promises of the return. “And the best part is, everybody’s wrong: Nobody knows where it’s going. And it’s right in front of you. And you missed it. It’s literally there, and you’re all guessing wrong. I love it.”

Here’s what we can safely say after watching the exclusive clip below: The part of the Jan. 13 episode synopsis that says “a frightening chapter of Jenny’s past is revealed” does not lie. Someone hold Abbie us. (We nominate Ichabod.)

'Rosemary's Baby' casts 'Avatar' actress

Zoe Saldana (Avatar) has been cast in NBC’s four-hour miniseries “Rosemary’s Baby,” an adaptation of the 1967 best-selling suspense novel by Ira Levin.

Saldana will play Rosemary, the would-be mother who, with her husband, moves into a Paris apartment that has a storied past. After finally getting pregnant, she becomes increasingly suspicious that her husband and their secretive neighbors have ulterior motives about the future of her child.

In December, NBC greenlit the adaptation. But unlike the famed 1968 Roman Polanski film starring Mia Farrow, the NBC version will be set in Europe instead of New York City. Scott Abbott (Introducing Dorothy Dandridge) and James Wong (The X-Files, American Horror Story) will write the screenplay; Agnieszka Holland (Treme) will direct.

Saldana’s other credits include Out of the Furnace and Star Trek and the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy from Marvel.

Damon Lindelof reveals details about his new HBO drama 'The Leftovers'

Damon Lindelof returns to the world of television later this year with a novel concept —  literally and figuratively. The Lost co-creator is adapting Tom Perotta’s 2011 bestseller The Leftovers into an HBO drama series (starring Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler, and Amy Brenneman, among others) that follows the residents of New York town three years after a rapture-like event whisked away 140 million people across the globe.  Pick up a copy of EW’s 2014 Preview Issue to steal a glance at a script page from the first episode, which is being directed by Peter Berg (who is also an executive producer on the show). Below, Lindelof reveals more to EW about this highly anticipated disappearing act.

On his decision to make another TV show and what attracted him to The Leftovers
“When Lost was ending, the two questions were: ‘What are your feelings about the ending of Lost?’ And ‘What’s next?’ The way I was answering the ‘What’s next?’ question was, ‘I don’t really want to think about it right now — I just want to enjoy this process,’ but the truth was ‘I don’t know if I can ever do another television show again because I’m so terrified that it’ll be just so much less than Lost,’ and I didn’t quite know any classy way of articulating that idea…. I went off into movie-ville with no real strong feelings about whether or not I was going to do TV again. I’m fairly monogamous when it comes to whatever project I’m working on, so I spent a year working on Prometheus and nothing else and then I spent a year working on Star Trek: Into Darkness. And then I was reading The New York Times Book Review – which is the way that I pretend to read books; I read the reviews of the books and then I can articulately pretend like I’ve read them — and Stephen King wrote a review of The Leftovers, which he described as the best episode of The Twilight Zone that had never been shot. I was a Perotta fan. I read Little Children and The Abstinence Teacher and just on the premise alone [of The Leftovers]. I was completely and totally engaged by this idea. I ran and got the book immediately and I got maybe 50 pages in before I decided: This should be a television show and I need to collaborate with Tom [Perotta, who is an exec producer and co-wrote the pilot with Lindelof] on that show. It took a year for things to sort themselves out but there was never any doubt as to like, ‘Should this be my next project?’ It was love at first sight.”

'American Horror Story': Stevie Nicks on her 'Coven' cameo: 'Don't you know? I have powers now!"

The White Witch has arrived! As promised, tonight’s new American Horror Story: Coven will feature a special guest turn from rock legend Stevie Nicks. It’s shaping up to be an exciting episode for Fleetwod Mac fans and Lily Rabes everywhere: Nicks will not only cross paths with her biggest fan, the supernatural swampstress Misty Day (Rabe), but she’ll also perform a certain witchy Fleetwood Mac classic.

Plus, she’s bringing a new course to Miss Robichaux’s Academy: Shawl Twirling 101 (which you can catch a sneak peak of in the video below). EW talked to Nicks about her AHS: Coven debut, meeting Rabe and the gang, and the presents she brought to the set. And if you’re worried about those old rumors about her being an actual real-life witch resurfacing, don’t be: “Don’t you know? I have powers now!” she says.

EW: Ryan Murphy had told us that when he first pitched you to be on the show, you were hesitant. What ultimately made you decide to do it?

STEVIE NICKS: When they called and asked me if they could use my music, they just explained it a little bit: there’s a character, and you’re a muse because she listens only to you — and she lives out in the swamp. And that was good enough for me! I’m like, sure you can! So whether it was a Fleetwood Mac song or Stevie Nicks song, they were going to choose a song that fit into their story. I thought, fantastic — as a songwriter, you could not ask for anything more. And I’m pretty close to them because of Glee, of course. So I said, sure, take my music — absolutely. READ FULL STORY

'SNL' adds LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones to writing staff

More signs of progress at Saturday Night Live: EW has confirmed that the sketch show has added comedians LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones to its writing staff. Their hiring comes two days after SNL announced that New York-based comedian Sasheer Zamata will be the show’s newest featured player. All three women are black — a rarity for SNL, which has featured just four black female cast members in its 39-year history. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Tookes (pictured at right), a former news reporter, was one of the 11 black women who auditioned for SNL during a secret showcase held in Los Angeles last December. She’s trained at Improv Olympic’s iO West theater. A character reel posted on YouTube shows her performing impressions of celebrities like Oprah, Paula Deen, and Nicki Minaj.

Jones is a veteran comedian and actress who has opened for Jamie Foxx and appeared on programs including Showtime at the Apollo, Chelsea Lately, Mind of MenciaGirlfriends, and Problem Child, an hour-long Showtime special. She auditioned at SNL‘s secret New York showcase in December.

Though the show currently has no plans to feature Tookes or Jones onscreen, that could easily change: Several past cast members, including Jason Sudeikis and Tina Fey, started out as writers before transitioning to on-camera work. And just this year, longtime writer Mike O’Brien was brought into the show’s cast as a featured player.

“With this amazing mix of new shows, returning favorites, and two high-profile cast reunions, PaleyFest 2014 will be a must-attend event for TV fans who attend every year from all over the world,” said Pat Mitchell, the president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media, in a release. “The caliber of talent participating in PaleyFest this year is absolutely unrivaled in the industry and we hope fans will not only have a great time interacting with the casts and creators, but will also learn about how their favorite shows get made.”

'Intelligence' is TV's most-watched new series, BUT...

Intelligence.jpg

Two new dramas opened Tuesday night to very different fates: CBS’ Intelligence and ABC’s Killer Women.

Intelligence returns Josh Holloway to prime-time as a secret agent with a computer chip in his brain. The 9 p.m. premiere had 16.6 million viewers and a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating. That’s a huge number of total viewers for Intelligence, but with a middling rating in the key demo. In fact, this makes Intelligence the most-watched new series premiere of the season, so expect to see CBS ads touting that stat any second now.

The reason for this unusual split-return performance for a new show starring a relatively young-ish star, presumably, is the lead-in: NCIS has an older audience and is the most-watched drama on TV.  But here’s the not-great news: Intelligence dropped 17 percent in the demo from NCIS and then dropped from a 2.5 in its first half hour to a 2.3 in its second, as well as underperformed the time period average for NCIS: LA. So though Intelligence has one awesome bragging right in its most-watched claim, the other numbers give some pause. Plus with Intelligence moving to Mondays, there could be some challenges ahead. Still: It’s a procedural on CBS and this is just the first airing, so it’s too early to say too much.

Killer Women, however, is another story. On ABC, Killer Women at 10 p.m. stars Tricia Helfer as a Texas Ranger, seems to be headed for an early grave. The drama had a mere 3.9 million viewers and a 0.9 rating. That sadly matches ABC’s time-period average in this slot this season, but it was stomped by CBS’ Person of Interest and NBC’s Chicago Fire.

Here’s our take on Killer Women and our interview with Holloway on Intelligence.

Around the grid: ABC’s SHIELD was steady with its last airing, The Goldbergs was up a tick and Trophy Wife was flat. CBS’ NCIS and Person of Interest were steady. Biggest Loser and Fire were down about 15 percent each. Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine and New Girl were down, but Dads and Mindy Project were up. Full chart: READ FULL STORY

Hulu's original programming slate includes Casey Wilson comedy, new season of 'The Awesomes'

Hulu’s originals lineup for the new year, announced this morning, is an amalgam both old favorites and a few new shows, with offerings like a Real Housewives parody starring Casey Wilson (watch EW’s exclusive debut of Hulu’s Hotwives of Orlando trailer), the second season of Seth Meyers’ The Awesomes, and the second season of Chris O’Dowd’s semi-autobiographical comedy Moone Boy.

“What I love about [our slate] is the diversity of the high-quality content that is there,” Charlotte Koh, head of development, tells EW. “I think that we’re doing the continued mission of bringing a great variety of carefully selected, hand-picked shows from all over the world in lots of different genres and I think that represents the fact that we have a sophisticated, curious audience that wants to try out television that feels distinctive.”

The launch of a supernatural comedy called Deadbeat, starring Tyler Labine (Reaper) and So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley — Hulu’s first co-production with Lionsgate — and a second season of Hulu’s East Los High were also among the projects announced. Their full slate is detailed below. READ FULL STORY

Esquire Network explores Texas youth football with 'Friday Night Tykes' -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Can’t lose. Because if you do, the coach is not going to be happy. Football is king in Texas, and Esquire Network’s original 10-part docuseries Friday Night Tykes gives viewers an inside look at the world of youth football in the San Antonio region. The show follows five teams from the Texas Youth Football Association (TYFA) on and off the field throughout the 2013 season. It’s basically Friday Night Lights with 8 and 9 year olds.

TLC made its mark with Toddlers & Tiaras, drumming up controversy about parents living vicariously through their children. And Friday Night Tykes will likely have a similar effect. The show will tackle serious questions like: How much competition is too much? Is the sport safe for young children? And at what price are we pushing our kids to win? Regardless of the answers, it’s fascinating to watch. Need more proof? In this exclusive clip, Lisa Connell, the “momager” of the Jr. Broncos says she was done with the “everybody gets a trophy” and a “fair chance” league and was ready for her son, Colby, to take on the competition at the next level.
