Fort Hamilton's Michael Brooks returns two interceptions for touchdowns in Tigers' 30-21 win over Brooklyn Tech

Both INTs came in second half, including one late in game that sealed the win. Also in Brooklyn, Poly Prep pounds Xaverian.

Michael Brooks was a star and he showcased his big-time potential against Brooklyn Tech on Saturday.

Brooks picked up two huge interceptions in the second half, taking them both back for touchdowns that helped lead visting Fort Hamilton to a 30-21 win over Brooklyn Tech in a wild PSAL Championship Division season opener on Saturday in Brooklyn.

The second of Brooks’ two interception returns for touchdowns came late in the fourth quarter, capping off the win for the Tigers (1-0).

“Under pressure, the big plays really sealed the victory for us,” Fort Hamilton coach Daniel Perez said.

Fort Hamilton found itself down 19-18 in the fourth quarter before Brooks converted a third and 20 play on offense to keep a drive alive.

“I told the team to play for 48 minutes and keep their heads high and compete,” said Perez.

Isaiah Washington finished off the drive with a big rushing touchdown. Washington set the tone for the offense and Fort Hamilton was able to close the game out after taking the lead in the fourth.

Once Fort Hamilton took the lead back from Brooklyn Tech in the second half, the team responded with some big plays, Perez noted.

“We were resilient and fought for four quarters,” Perez said.

Bayside 26, Tilden 12: Henry McCoy and Jeremiah Harris connected for three big touchdowns that led host Bayside to the season-opening victory.

McCoy and Harris had a huge first half, hooking up for three scores before halftime, including one for 80 yards.

Harris, a senior who did not start last season, finished with four catches to help Bayside get off to a 1-0 start.

Like Harris, a lot of Bayside’s players are new to starting. However, Commodores head coach Jason Levitt is confident in his team.

“We didn’t really know what we had, but we had a lot of time to prepare,” said Levitt.

The first half was filled with excitement from both teams, including that 80-yard touchdown pass from McCoy to Harris. But the inexperience showed in the second half, when both teams coughed up some big turnovers.

But it was Bayside’s defense that held down the lead to secure the win.

“Our defense was poised and solid, and we were definitely prepared for the game,” Levitt said.

Poly Prep 42, Xaverian 0: Poly Prep head coach Dino Mangiero will look for improvement next weekend despite a resounding Week 1 win for his team on the road.

Mangiero explained that his team is filled with underclassmen and they need to improve on “a lot of basic stuff.”

“Theres a lot of room to get better,” Mangiero said. “After they see the film, they’ll understand we have a long way to go.”
