FORMS @ MoMA PS1: Future Brown
November 17, 2013
On Sunday, MoMA PS1's Sunday Sessions hosted an event made possible by Pitchfork's FORMS. Future Brown, a new project from artist and composer Fatima Al Qadiri, Asma Maroof and Daniel Pineda of Nguzunguzu, and J-Cush of Lit City Trax, debuted excerpts from previously unreleased material. Future Brown are currently working on their debut album, which will feature collaborations with Kelela, Shawnna, Tink, 3D Na'tee, Maluca, Riko Dan, and Ian Isiah.
In coordination with this performance, digital media platform DIS presented Drills, an exhibition of choreographed basketball drills, warm-up exercises, and ball handling.Thunderhorse Ent. turned the VW Dome into a brown Barclay's Center with two courts and a central projection screen.

Pitchfork Music Festival Paris took place from October 31 to November 2 at Grande Halle de La Villette. The festival featured performances from The Knife, Disclosure, Panda Bear, Glass Candy, Sky Ferreira, Hot Chip, Danny Brown, Connan Mockasin, Darkside, Savages, Mac DeMarco, and dozens more. Photographers Tom Spray and Tonje Thilesen were there to capture the performances.

FORMS @ MoMA PS1: R Plus 6 / Affect Index

Last night, Daniel Lopatin (aka Oneohtrix Point Never) and visual artist Nate Boyce presented "R Plus 6/Affect Index", a multimedia collaboration at MoMA PS1's VW Dome in Long Island City, Queens. It's part of MoMA PS1's Sunday Sessions and made possible by Pitchfork's FORMS. Lopatin and Boyce presented a surround-sound diffusion and abstract audiovisual seminar exploring the peripheral content informing the new Oneohtrix Point Never album R Plus 7. (Boyce has also done live visuals and music video visual for OPN). The installation was inspired by jazz fusion harmonic analysis, Cryogenics, procedural composition/poetry and morphogenetic approaches to form. Photographer Samantha Marble was there.

This year's CMJ Music Marathon took over New York City last week. Pitchfork hosted two unofficial events during CMJ week, on October 18 and October 19. Both took place at 285 Kent in Brooklyn.

Mexican Summer Fifth Anniversary Fest

Over the weekend, Brooklyn label Mexican Summer hosted a festival at Pioneer Works Center for Art and Innovation in celebration of their fifth anniversary. The lineup featured Spiritualized, Ariel Pink, No Joy, Tamaryn, Fresh & Onlys, among others, including cult folk icons Linda Perhacs and Bobb Trimble.

Austin City Limits kicked off the past two weekends. Included sets by Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Queens of the Stone Age, Grimes, Wilco, The Cure, and many more. The final day of ACL, October 13, was cancelled due to flash flood warnings. However, Atoms For Peace played a makeup show at Moody Theatre and Franz Ferdinand at Infest. Over the weekend, the third annual Governors Ball Music Festival took place once again on Randall's Island in New York City. Heavy rain brought the festival to a halt around 9 p.m. on Friday, which resulted in slight schedule adjustments for Saturday. Some artists performing were Kanye West, Animal Collective, Grizzly Bear, the xx, Cut Copy, Dirty Projectors, Beach House, Kendrick Lamar, and many more.
